Inappropriate?Only you have access to your account so if you set all your messages to private then your messages and your account are for your eyes only.
Public Messages: Text Streams
Text Streams let you publish messages in a Text Stream page (like a SMS blog of the messages you've been sent). You can turn your Text Stream on or off in your Profile settings when you're logged in. If Text Stream is enabled all messages wil be public in your Text Stream age.
Message Spy
Messages are briefly displayed in short on the "Message Spy" on the homepage. If you enabled your Text Stream, we show the first few characters of the message. If you make all your messages private and disable Text STream then your message contents will not appear. The message spy will show "'yourname' treasured a secret SMS" instead.
If you wish your messages to remain private so no one sees them, you can set your messages to 'private' in your Settings.
