TOO MANY CHARACTERS TO SAVE?
My vrizon to verizon texts are long and cannot be saved completely? What do I do re: what is called "enhanced text messages" over 160 characters?

Verizon for whatever reason only support sending text messages longer than 160 characters to other Verizon phones.
As we are not a Verizon phone we never get the rest of the message. This 160 character limit does not exist on GSM networks such as ATT or T-Mobile
There's a thread relating to this limitation on Verizons forum with more detail.

I managed to compose, send and receive a longer message bu myself and sen to myself successfully - but kindly clarify that this cannot be saved on treasuremy text, since it did not arrive there - unles it takes time. But I forwarded treasure an old short tect and it came right up. So am I correct in assuming that pic texts can't be saved here? Thank you for your swift reply. I hope there is a way to keep these long messages on the site. Verizon is funny that way - they also refuse to print them for me. One would think that since they are my property I could have a printout. Other companies do it - but they are adamant on this. I like the service though and do not want to pay penalty charged for "divorce". Thnaks again and reply at your leisure...

Inappropriate?Hi there. No it can't be received because I think your using picture messages as a work around so you can get a longer message. We aren't able to receive these picture messages, only text messages.

Thank you, but verizon allows 160 characters out of network and more in network. Since I need to save texts and Verizon is so cocky and expensive, I wonder if you're able to offer any suggestions for new service? I have been wanting to cut loose from verizon for years and now have a great excuse. Some networks break up messages, do they not? Can you refer me to site to research and compare services and costs? At your leisure of course. I am not that fluent on the net.. Thanks much. -
Inappropriate? The reasons for the differences between Verizon and others is historical and is a result of two different competing mobile phone standards.
One is known as CDMA and is used by Verizon, Sprint. The other is a global standard called GSM which is used throughout the world and also in the U.S. by T-Mobile and AT&T.
Text messaging was originally introduced with GSM and therefore is supported better by it. They implement a way to send very long text messages by breaking them up into small ones made up of 160 characters but which appear as one long message (your billed for each 160 character message so a 170 character message will cost the same as two messages).
Some advantages of GSM are that you will find better coverage if you travel abroad. For instance you can buy a local SIM card in a foreign country and just drop it into your own GSM phone and it will mostly just work giving you cheaper calls. You can also easily upgrade or change phones just by moving the SIM to another phone. The range of handsets is also greater so you can get access to more phone manufacturers like Nokia, Apple and Sony Ericcson
So out of the two we always recommend the GSM standard and therefore T-Mobile or AT&T. It's important though to check coverage in your local area because this is probably your most important concern.
I did find this great article on choosing a mobile network and phone and it's worth a read. http://reviews.cnet.com/cell-phone-bu...
