I'd much prefer to use public transit in certain cities (SF, Portland!) than driving, and since Google Maps now supports this, it seems that you should offer me that option instead of forcing me to use driving directions...!
I think URLs for the iCal feeds should be more protected. I can currently look at anyone's feed if I know their username by loading "webcal://www.tripit.com/feed/ical/people/username/tripit.ics". That seems a bit open. People aren't supposed to just be able to see my traveling schedule with just a username, right? Anyway, two cents.
TripIt didn't give me directions between my airport and my hotel / meetings. Did I do something wrong? Is there a way to embed directions inside my itinerary?
If TripIt let me associate my Plazes, Dopplr and Upcoming accounts, you could take any of my future trips/events that I've marked as attending and let me generate a new trip from them.
Essentially you would provide a view of events from each service (denoted with the favicon) and a link to "Create a trip itinerary for this event". It would ROCK.
It would be really useful -- since you know how far I'm traveling and which airlines I'm on -- to track mileage program numbers... Every now and then I get emails telling me how many miles I've accrued, but it'd be smart for TripIt to do this. Expedia (I believe) offers a similar feature, but theirs is useless.
If you both counted the numbers of miles I've accrued based on YOUR estimates, then let me forward you my mileage emails with THEIR counts, it'd be fascinating to see if the airlines are actually accurate in their calculations.
Currently only meetings and activities are supported, but this ignores the need for multi-day events like conferences, which don't fit into any of the existing categories.
It'd be really useful if I could better use TripIt for conference travel planning...!
I might not want to share my trip, but it'd be cool if I could add some contact details for folks I expect I'll need to contact when I arrive... Besides "add plans", I'd like an "add local contacts" link.
Wouldn't it make more sense to offer an easier way to pick my timezone rather than a GMT dropdown picker? It's impossible to do type-ahead and just feels painful to try to figure it out...
Given that you're both working in the new travel space, but doing different yet overlapping things, I think there's huge potential in hooking your two services together, and some obvious entry points -- particularly around reporting on a new trip. It would be great if, as part of forwarding something to plans@tripit.com, it would just automagically show up as a trip I'm taking in Dopplr.
The bane of my existence is the amount of re-formatting I have to do to airline confirmation emails just to share travel details via email with my friends and family. And, yes, with TripIt I can do that on the Web, but sometimes email is just the best option. And since you guys have done all the hard work of parsing the email on the way in, you should let me spit out an email message that has a very simple and clear format (text only or HTML, my choice) that I can send along to people.
And of course, a promotion for TripIt at the bottom of every one! It worked for Hotmail, after all. :)
The "my friends" thing is great, but sometimes I just need to email a one-off version of my itinerary to somebody. And no need for a username/password combo to see it -- better to just do "security through obscurity," and use nofollow and noindex on the pages so google doesn't see 'em.
I mean, I guess you could have the option for a username/password combo, but I personally don't want that when I just want to send a URL to my grandma.
I somehow ended up with two accounts -- one with my work email and one with my personal email. When I tried to add my personal email address to my account I was told that email address was already registered with Tripit. Is there any way to merge these two? Or can I delete one account?
I've got my mom and my dad coming into town in a couple weeks (two separate trips, actually), and I forwarded the info for their flights to TripIt because it really is insanely handy to have all the relevant trip details for your life in one place, even if it's just trips you need to know about.
Except, I can't seem to take myself off my parent's trips. I like 'em, I do, but I'm not flying home to Houston with them! Please let me add trips to my itinerary for my visitors. Kthxbye.
I'm trying to add the second email address in my account settings but it says it is already being used. I assume this is because someone shared their itinerary with that other account and it auto-reserved that address.
