Inappropriate?Do you change your calendar's timezone settings when you travel to reflect the local time zone? If so, then you should keep your calendar feed setting configured to respect time zones. Otherwise, you can simply ignore time zones for your calendar feed via "Settings/Publishing your data"(http://www.tripit.com/account/edit/se...). To do this, deselect "Automatically adjust time zones in your calendar feed..." under "For yourself/Calendar feed".
Let me know if you have further questions. Thanks.

Crikey, I wasn't expecting a Tripit employee response that quick. Thanks, Kristin. I've managed to work out the problem myself. -
Does that mean that the time will show incorrectly while I am not in the timezone associated with the departure/arrival? I'm having the same problem. It is not fixed by unchecking the box, and I also don't want to change from automatic to setting my own timezones for each flight segment. Please elaborate. -
Inappropriate?Sorry, that's my fault. The timezone was set to Automatic and was using CEST - instead of BST. I've created that now and it works flawlessly
I’m confident

Inappropriate?Great! Thanks for the follow up, Hank.

Inappropriate? My flights all have the TZ set to automatic (I did not make any changes, this is how they are imported from the airline itinerary). I have my Tripit profile set to respect timezones. If turn on timezone support in iCal, then the trips show +8 hours (I'm in PT/GMT -8), if I turn timezone support off in iCal then they show the correct time.
I need timezone support in ical and I do not want to have to change every flight to the local timezone. Is there an option I'm missing?
-
If I turn off "respect timezones" on Tripit, it appears to work, but this is not how I would expect it to work based on the help for that setting:
"Leave this checked if you usually update the time zone setting on your computer as you travel to different locations. Most modern computers and cellphones will do this automatically." -
Did you get this resolved? -
I have turned off time zone support on iCal which seems to resolve the tripit issues, but creates problems for iCal events which have a timezone set. I'd really like a Tripit employee to weigh in on the correct settings for Tripit, iCal and gCal. Just a set of clear instructions would resolve this issue. -
Inappropriate?Ok, I think I may have found at least a symptom of the problem. When I look at the calendar details for my Tripit calendar in Google Calendar, it shows the calendar time zone as GMT+00:00. That is likely why the times are off. Now how do I fix it?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Alain,
In the prefs for iCal, under Advanced, do you have Time Zone support turned on?
If you do you should see in the top right of iCal above the search box a drop down with a time zone. You can add other time zones. Make sure the time zone you are in right now is selected there.
Then, add some other time zones that you regularly visit or look at. When you change that drop down to another time zone, everything in your calendar will be re-calced to the time zone you select. Nothing will actually move, it will just be displayed in a new time.
I find that TripIt's putting everything into GMT works just fine.

I'm not working with iCal directly. I'm working with Google Calendar. -
Inappropriate? On Gcal look in settings for the Country and Your Current Time Zone. See what these are set to.
-
Those are correctly set to USA and GMT-5:00 (Eastern). -
Just to let people know that this is possible, here's my set up and all time zone stuff is working.
iCal is my primary calendar
TripIt feeds into iCal via the feed.
TripIt also feeds into gCal via the feed.
I sync iCal and gCal with Spanning Sync but this doesn't touch the TripIt data
All parts are time zone aware. iCal is set to Jerusalem time (GMT +2) and so is gCal. -
Inappropriate?Hi Alain,
Could you please contact me directly at support@tripit.com? Happy to look into it.

Inappropriate? The simple solution is to turn off the auto-adjust setting (http://www.tripit.com/account/edit/se...) for your personal TripIt calendar feed. That way, your TripIt events will show up at the right time regardless of your calendar application's timezone setting. Furthermore, you won't have to make any changes to your calendar application that would affect other non-TripIt related events.
The only exception to this recommendation is Google Calendar which seems to handle floating timezones in a different manner than most other calendar applications. And, in this case, we've found it works best to keep the auto-adjust setting turned on. While your TripIt events may show offsets initially, you should expect your events to show up at the right time once you've changed the Google Calendar timezone setting to the local timezone. -
Inappropriate?Kristin, thanks for the response.
What you describe works if both iCal and Tripit are set to "ignore" TZ information (as your instructions describe), but I have iCal setup to use TZ information and my company posts meeting requests and calendar items with the TZ information--so that creates a problem because i need TZ information in iCal.
I ran a couple of tests by creating two itineraries with meetings. Interestingly enough, the TZ information appears to be working correctly now??
Let me be more specific, in iCal the event/meeting shows up at the correct time in calendar view (day/week/month), but when looking at the event directly (by double clicking it) it still shows the time as GMT. For example, I setup a meeting at 10:00 AM CET (Paris), but this shows up as 9:00 AM GMT when looking at the calendar item. Yes, the meeting is at 9:00 AM GMT, but when scanning a busy calendar it is easy to misread the time.
I think this is very confusing behavior. Could events be added to the calendar feed with their TZ info set to the TZ of the event instead of defaulting to GMT? Even if I explicitly set the TZ in the meeting, the calendar view correctly updates, but the time is still set to GMT.
Thanks...
