Announcing Cablecast 4.7.8 & 4.8.1

Today we are pleased to announce Cablecast 4.7.8 and 4.8.1!

The Cablecast 4.7.8 release contains solutions to issues with X-List time formatting, a rare Connection pool error and an expanded range of COM ports in the IR Learner application's drop-down list.

As for Cablecast 4.8.1, we continued to solidify encoding and playback of specific file types as listed below in the complete release notes. If you have an SX series video server we recommend upgrading to 4.8.1 which enhances the stability and reliability established by 4.8.0. Even though 4.8 was a "Y" upgrade (in terms of x.y.z versions), this will be a free upgrade to anyone with an SX server. You will not need an active SA contract to get this update. This is for SX customers only.

If you are upgrading from 4.7.z to 4.8.z there are a few VERY important steps, that if missed, will render your system out of service. Please read the Cablecast 4.8 Software Update Guide until you have a full understanding of the process. The update guide is distributed with all upgrades via your download key and can also be accessed in the TRMS Documentation area of our website. If AFTER reading the update guide, you are uncomfortable performing the upgrade or are confused by the process, we suggest you schedule an appointment with our support team. You must download all of the files BEFORE your appointment with support, then they will VNC into your system completing the upgrade process free of charge.

The following is a brief overview of the most critical, additional steps required for the 4.7.z to 4.8.z upgrade:

New Drivers
Customers with SX servers will need to upgrade their "SX Drivers" to version 5.5.1.215 in order for the 4.8 release to function.

SX-4 Cable Swap
Both of the audio and video cables (SX-4 only) need to be swapped as detailed in the Cablecast 4.8 Software Update Guide. The cables swap is a necessary requirement of the new driver.

To request this update, please email our support team at support@trms.com. In your email, please include the following items:

-Your name and organization

*All changes made in Cablecast 4.7.8 are reflected in 4.8.1.

Release Notes for Cablecast 4.7.8

A rare issue was found that could cause the schedule page to attempt an infinite number of connections to the database. This issue, while exceedingly rare, has been fixed.

Bug 3712: X-List output file format of HH:MM:SS is not accepted by TV Guide
Reformatted the output to use "h:mm tt" (12-hour, minutes, and am/pm). Reports from customers say that this format works.

The drop-down list of COM ports in the IR Learner application now shows ports 1 through 256.

Release Notes for Cablecast 4.8.1

Bug 3729: Encoding with VBI turned on creates a mpg file instead of a AVI file
When encoding to a .mpg file, the VBI file was being created correctly, as an uncompressed AVI file, but was having it's file extension set to .mpg, this issue has been corrected.

Bug 3731: Playing back files with a separate VBI file sometimes fails
When playing back non .avi files with an external VBI file, the server would sometimes fail to locate the VBI, this is now working correctly.

Bug 3720: Can't encode 4:2:2 IFrame files
An issue was found that was preventing the creation of 4:2:2 MPEG files, this issue is fixed, and 4:2:2 now works properly.

Bug 3721: Extraneous SX errors are logged on non-SX servers
An issue was discovered that was causing non SX servers to try to start the SX applications, this issue has been fixed.

Bug 3745: SXConfiguration tray application does not add .mpg extension to records that it starts
When a record was started from the SXConfigruation application, it would not add the file extension, this would leave you with "TRMSIsAwesome" instead of "TRMSIsAwesome.mpg". The .mpg extension is now added automatically.

Bug 3724: It is not possible to play .dv files
An issue was discovered that was preventing the playback of .dv files in most circumstances, this has been resolved.

Bug 3725: SX Configuration app won't change hte resolution of the server
The drop-down menu in the SXConfiguration application was not propagating resolution changes to the hardware, this has been fixed.

Bug 3747: Automatically generated file name for 'Unnamed records' contains invalid path chars
When the user attempts to start a record from the force menu, but does not specify a FileKey, we were generating an invalid name for the file, this issue has been corrected.

Bug 3727: When a playback finishes, final frame of video stays up until a stop command is received
Once the last frame of video has been played, the server will now output black until the next video starts. This should improve the quality of back-to-back transitions.
