Announcing Carousel 5.1.7 & 5.2.2
We are excited to announce our last two releases of Carousel for 2008!
The Carousel 5.1.7 release has a short list of resolved issues, but it packs a punch! Most significantly, we have decreased the bandwidth usage resulting in less traffic on your network.
In Carousel 5.2.2 we improved the functionality of our RSS feeds by optimizing feed updates, paginating text, and improving dwell time in relation to the size of the feed. You will also find modifications to weather bulletin updates, group bulletin behavior, and the Clone tool amongst others.
*Changes made in Carousel 5.1.7 are reflected in 5.2.2.

Release Notes for Carousel 5.1.7
Bug 3618: Display Engine uses more bandwidth than expected
The bandwidth usage was improved on average from 50k per second to 15k per second.
Release Notes for Carousel 5.2.2
Bug 3575: Custom weather bulletins are not updating due to rogue file
The rogue files created by custom Weather bulletins are no longer queued for the Display Engine to download, therefore, allowing for regular weather updates.
Bug 3444: Standard bulletins cannot be moved to Alert bulletins and vice versa
From a Standard bulletin you can click on the 'Copy or Move' icon to move it to the Alert bulletin list or vice versa.
Bug 3631: Carousel Display Engine helper application unexpectedly quit and displayed an error message
Instead of displaying an error message the video will now resume play.
Bug 3445: Uploaded bulletin packages create two database references to the same media file or overwrites existing bulletins
New GUID's (Globally Unique Identifiers) are now created for a page when uploading a bulletin package. This eliminates the previous behavior of overwriting the existing file when the package is uploaded to the zone of it's origin. If the package is uploaded to a new zone, it will reference the correct media file in the database rather than creating a duplicate database entry.
Bug 3621: The Event Display System is unable to access the Ad Astra database resulting in an error
The connection was opened between the Event Display System and Ad Astra enabling data retrieval.
Bug 3643: Occasionally RSS feeds are not updating
RSS bulletins with many items or dynamic content over slow links were not finishing their download (every 5 minutes), therefore, the Display Engine would begin to queue them up again. This behavior would result in some of the bulletins not getting updated. The service will now only re-render RSS bulletins if the content of the feed has changed.
Bug 3622: User without proper access rights attemping to edit a group is returned to FrontDoor log in
Only users with the "Manage-All Bulletins" permission are allowed to edit a group (Ungroup, Edit, Copy or Move, and Delete). Group edit options are available from the "All bulletins" tab only.
Bug 3589: Clone tool import does not reflect zone name changes in the channel layout when zones overlap
Imported channels now display the correct zone name in the error message when zones overlap in the channel layout.
Bug 3063: EDS rendering runs amok with long event names
In the Event Display System, Event names that exceed the field will be truncated and an ellipse (...) will be added to the end of the text.
Bug 3613: File name change corrupts channel package when importing using Clone Tool
Changes made to the file name of a channel package are now reflected in the zip file, allowing for successful importing via the Clone tool.
Bug 3581: Isolated server error when adding Web Page Snapshots
The installer now consistently distributes ATL71.dll to execute Web Page Snapshots.
New 3635: The ItemContent field of ATOM feeds do not display in RSS bulletins
RSS bulletins now display the ItemContent data of ATOM feeds instead of returning an empty feed.
Bug 3494: A black border is placed around video within a bulletin
The video border style was changed to allow for seamless design.
Bug 3614: RSS bulletin skips stories in feed when character length exceeds RSS page
RSS bulletins will now paginate text that exceeds the character length of the RSS page. You will see '(cont.)' at the end of the paginated text and on the beginning of the next page.
Bug 3584: Server application error when adding or editing large groups of bulletins
The new handling of Group bulletin additions and edits has eliminated the error and greatly increased the processing speed.
Bug 3639: RSS bulletins are not pacing themselves consistently based on the average number of words
RSS bulletins now count the average number of words in the feed and adjust the dwell time properly.

Inappropriate?Jennifer,
I just went into Carousel 5.2.2 Build 58 to delete a group. I noticed the Group controls are now showing ONLY in "All Bulletins". In other words, the Group controls are no longer available when in "My Bulletins". Any reason for this???? I believe it's a disadvantage to not have the tools available in "My Bulletins".
Thanks.
John Goran
I’m curious

Inappropriate? This is true, it was to fix an issue where people were able to bypass their permissions by modifying groups under the "My Bulletins" tab (it was causing users to get logged out if they didn't have permissions, not letting them do something they weren't supposed to). We decided that it wasn't correct for the "My Bulletins" tab to allow the group to be changed, since a group doesn't necessarily have only bulletins from a single user.
