Anti-virus software question
Wondering if anyone is using an anti-virus software package to protect their cablecast system successfully.
We have had some playback issues lately and we were told to remove McAfee from our system.
Thanks in advance,

Inappropriate? There is a program called ClamWin:
http://www.clamwin.com/
that we had put on the Carousel that someone had installed some programs on and thus some spyware and trojans. The machine ended up getting wiped out and reinstallation of TRMS stuff but JJ seemed to be receptive of ClamWin, which is an open source, free virus scanner. I know that the differing flavors of VNC I have seen on Tightrope machines are also open source and free. ClamWin is definitely less intrusive of a virus scanner than McAfee and Symantec. I use it on all of my home machines for a year or two now without any problems at all.
Maybe JJ or Chad wants to chime in to give a thumbs up or down.
Also, JJ, I had responded to your email a while back. Just wanted to make sure you knew I had done so in case you didn't get it for some reason.

Inappropriate?Mike/Rick,
I'd feel comfortable giving ClamWin a try. In 95% of cases users aren't reporting back to us problems with anti-virus software, but there has been the occasional problem that we've resovled by having the user remove such software. (PestPatrol is the one that sticks in my mind at the moment.)
The best course of action I recommend is to make sure you have a stable machine and then add components one at a time, giving a few weeks between modifications to ensure system stability if you're planning on adding third party software. This way if a new program is causing an issue, it should hopefully be apparent.

Inappropriate? We use Norton and have not had any problems related to virus software ever on our cablecast/carousel system. Works great and we keep it up to date.

Inappropriate?I also have used Norton with success. The main thing is to add the media file extensions to the "on access" scan exemptions list. I've run into trouble when the system has to wait for a virus scan on a 10GB MPEG file!
