Automatic Recording - Wouldn't that be great!
What do people think about having the capabilitiy to automatically begin recording from a specific input the second the input sees video, and stop recording the second it doesn't see video? Our town meetings are in another building and it is all automated so that they can hit a few buttons and go out live over our government channel. However, with the SX2 it will not begin recording unless I hit the start button in the Force Matric screen. And then I have to be around to hit the stop recording button when the meeting is done. Doesn't always happens, and even in some cases I've recorded 25 hours for a 3 hour meeting. Not good. The old system I had, Briggs Media System, use to do that for me and it was great. Even withouth this feature Tightrope is still more superior in other things. But, I need my automatic recording feature. Right now I have TIVO hooked up recording 5 hours of every meeting night, then I have to use VideoRedo to edit the five hours and to encode it to mpg2. Too much work.

Inappropriate?Dick, you can either schedule your SX to encode at a predetermined time and for whatever duration you choose, by using the 'Record' tab in Cablecast Schedule. No need to endlessly record to your encoder using the Force Matrix screen;
*OR*,
do what I do with my daily live morning program (also at a remote location): click the 'Record Run' box in the show record. A dialog box will pop up, asking you which recording device you want to use, and if it's an encoder, what file name you want to call the recording. After you send autopilot, your program will automatically record, saving an automation step, without further intervention on your part.
Occasionally, when we're encoding meetings (since these events are notoriously difficult to estimate for run time), we'll set the encoding as described above (for a school committee meeting, let's say 4 hours), but log in to the Force Matrix screen and stop recording if the meeting ends before that time. If for some reason we miss that opportunity to stop the encoding, we use MPEG Streamclip to trim the long file, saving space on the server.
Hope that helps!

Inappropriate?Shawn, thanks for the comments. I had tried that originally, but maybe hadn't done it correctly since I was a newbie and it didn't work right. I just did a sample test and it worked fine. I'll do that for now, but hope they still work on an automated method so that when meetings happen that I was not informed about it will record automatically. Thanks, for the help.
I’m a lot less frustrated.

I was looking for the 'Record Run' in the show record - it doesn't seem to be there on my version. Is it supposed to be by the IP exempt and On Demand check boxes?
I’m just this guy, man

Inappropriate?SCTV ...
'Record Run' is not in the show record.
Record Run is part of 'Run Details' When you schedule the show, towards the right there should be a link that says details. This will bring you into the Run Details. This is where you can do things like 'Record Run' or set a crawl text and such.

Inappropriate?Oops, my bad! It's in the 'Details' Section for a particular program's scheduled run in the schedule screen. I got my screens mixed up! Good thing I don't work for Tech Support! :-)
