Bandwith requirements for streaming VOD
If we had a Cablecast SX-VOD and only had a bonded T1 (T2). Would that be enough outgoing bandwidth to satisfy our needs? Does anybody have a SX-VOD? What's the size of your pipe? And how satisfied are you with your streaming output?

Inappropriate?Hi commtvsc,
To be honest, I'm not exactly sure... For better or for worse, there are a lot of "it depends" involved in the answer. There's some quick calculations that can be done, but I don't know them off the top of my head. I'll ask someone more knowledgeable than me to take a look at this topic and weigh in.
Also, this is a common enough question that we really should have an "official" FAQ about it. We'll get on that. :)

Inappropriate?I have done one installation on a 2MB pipe and another on a Fairpoint 15 down 2 up and both work fine. Hope that helps

Inappropriate?I have done a lot of polling of customers and have not had one that said 2Mbps upstream was not enough. More to come in a blog post. - Steve

Inappropriate? We do okay on a RoadRunner Business Class connection (cable modem, not like a T1 or T3) at 8Mbps down and 2Mbps up. But I think if demand grows for these services (which is going to happen) we could have issues...
