Both SX4 Channels won't record simultaneously
SX4 Server - simultaneous recording on both record channels - Two live inputs - one satellite - one studio - Channel 2 is recording fine, but Channel 1 is saying that it is "Initializing Encoder" and it is "Stopped" - Perform Action
Stopped E:\1416.mpg: Initializing encoder . Both events were scheduled to start at the same time but on two different output channels. Any ideas as to what is happening here?

Inappropriate?Hello,
Hmm, so, channel 2 works, but 1 doesn't... Does channel 1 work if you schedule it to record on its own? Or does it not work at all?
Also, could you tell us what version of Cablecast you're running?
I'll ask our video & hardware engineer to have a look and see if he can offer any advice.

I’m puzzled

I just checked John and it appears that Channel 1 has not been recording at all. I just went back and checked most of the satellite stuff that had been recorded on Channel 1 over the past few weeks and none of it is any good. Sometimes it actually created a file and other times it did not. Vers.4.7.5 Build 32 -
If you attempt to "force" a record on Channel 1, does it fail then too? If so, then it's probably an issue with just Channel 1 that we need to track down, rather than some sort of conflict when scheduling simultaneous records. -
Inappropriate?Hello,
Another thing to check is that the video input is set properly. In the event that it is set incorrectly, the server will likely not even create a file. To check the input, go to the server and right click on the SXConfiguration application in the system tray. Its the one with the white SX on a green circle. From there go to 'Encoder 0' and click 'Settings' You should have a drop down for both video and audio input.
Let us know what you find out.
I’m confused

I checked the video input settings and they seem to be fine. The problem occurs whether there is another show being recorded on channel 2 at the same time or not. I have no clue as to what the problem is - only know that channel 1 won't record even though it has been creating a file looking like something was recorded. I checked the physical connections and they seem to be ok also. -
Inappropriate?Hmm, we'll probably want to have a support tech take a look to see what is going on...
In the meantime, one more bit of troubleshooting to try: Could you switch the cables going into inputs 1 and 2 on the server? If channel 2 suddenly goes bad, then we know it's a problem with the video going into the server. If channel 1 stays broken, then we know it's an issue with the server itself.

We worked with Austin today and he downloaded drivers for the encoder and now nothing works. I had to go shoot video this afternoon and came back to a dead channel. So now neither channel will record or playback. We were better off before, as at least one channel was recording and all channels were playing back. I am essentially hosed until tomorrow morning at this point in time and I am missing about 6 hours of satellite record time from Annenberg. I need some help on this bright and early Friday morning and we need to be up an running with the SX4 before the weekend. -
I'll follow up with them right now to make sure some progress is being made. I'm sorry about the hassle. --John -
Inappropriate? Can you call back into support so we can get into your system again? We will do everything we can to get you back up and running before the weekend.

OK, For some reason on Friday we thought that everything was working. Now I come back in on Monday to find out that nothing recorded off of channel 1. So after further investigation, Channel 1 was recording on Friday evening the 5th. The first program that was to be recorded after midnight on Channel 1 recorded 15 minutes of a 1 hour program and then quit. After that another program did not record on Channel 1 the whole weekend. This is actually what it was doing before we thought it was fixed on Friday, because we went back and found some programs where the first 15 minutes were recorded and it seems after that happens it will not record again on channel 1. Can we figure this out today? Thanks
