Cablecast control module for Kramer routing switcher
Will Cablecast interface with a Kramer VS-1602xl routing switcher? If I'm not mistaken, a control module has been under development.

Inappropriate?Hi salexhan,
According to the Kramer Electronics website, the VS-1602xl uses the "Protocol 2000" RS-232 control protocol. (Reference)
We have a control module called Kramer2000CM that "speaks" Kramer's Protocol 2000 language, so the VS-1202xl should be compatible with that control module.
The one caveat is that some of the Kramer routers support something called a "breakaway" mode. Depending on the router, it may or may not play nicely with this mode, so we have a setting in the control module configuration to "ignoreBreakawayMode." If the router isn't behaving as expected, you may want to try ignoring this mode. Our support team will be able to help you make this configuration change if needed.
I hope this helps! :-)

Inappropriate?John,
Thank you for the reply. My reseller expressed confidence in getting the router to work with Cablecast. I had heard that the Kramer devices might be problematic.

Hey Scott... I'll ask some of our support staff to hop in to this discussion and share any impressions they have about the Kramer routers. I generally don't work with them every day so I can't speak to their "problematic-ness." :-) --John -
Inappropriate?Scott,
I wouldn't worry about using a Kramer router with Cablecast. There are numerous Cablecast systems out there running Kramer routers. John does make a good point about the 'breakaway' setting. However other routers also have these additional settings.
Were there some specific routers you were looking at? I would say that Knox, Sierra, Leitch, Exrton and Pesa all make routers combatible with Cablecast.

Inappropriate?Grayson,
We have a Kramer VS-1602xl working with a TCD/IP. We'll be moving to a SX2 and Carousel configuration soon (and possibly an SX Live). We manage a single channel and would like to re-use existing equipment until we make the full jump to SDI sometime in the future.
Thank you.
