Cablecast (on Carousel box) is not driving the schedule.
We just got our SX 4 server installed but are running Cablecast off of our old Cablecast/Carousel box. After setting everything up and yes the Cablecast is manually seeing the SX 4 - The schedule will not run. I can manually change programs, but the cablecast will not automate the schedule. It will not run carousel either. We are using Cablecast/ Carousel SX 4 and Sigma router.

Inappropriate?Hi RPiekar,
So, you can successfully force events to execute on the SX4, but scheduled events don't happen? Have you tried sending autopilot since you brought the new server online? Doing an autopilot send is what "pushes" the schedule of events to external devices like the video server.
Does that help at all?

Inappropriate? We are doing an autopilot in Cablecast. This is the first we have sent an autopilot since hooking up the SX 4. Keep in mind that Cablecast is still operating off of the Carousel box. Does this have something to do with it? I am thinking it has to do with a setting that we overlooked when we hooked everything up. We changed a lot of our router designations to accomodate the new server inputs and outputs.
-
Inappropriate?John, can we have someone remote into our server and our cablecast box and look around to see if we have all the settings correct?
-
Sure, you can give our support team a call or email at any time to schedule a VNC session. support@trms.com -
Inappropriate? What also might be helpful is to do a bit of divide and conquer to find where the culprit may lie... If you could have answers for these questions before calling support, it might help them track down which setting is awry.
When a schedule show is supposed to start:
- Does the video server start playing the file or not?
- Does the router make a switch or not?
- Does the Event Table have the correct inputs/outputs listed for that event?
- Can you force the show to play on air from the video server?
- Does the Cablecast version on server match the version of the Control Modules on the SX-4?
Knowing these things should help find the problem.
Thanks,
-John
I’m sure we'll get it
-
OK - I guess I spoke too soon. Got the video files figured out - encoded in H. 264 and those are working ok. So now the video server is again not playing video files from the server. Only scheduled files though, I can force a file to play .
Does the video server start playing the file or not? No
Does the router make a switch or not? Yes
Does the Event Table have the correct inputs/outputs listed for that event? YES
Can you force the show to play on air from the video server? Yes.
Does the Cablecast version on server match the version of the Control Modules on the SX-4? Yes -
Hmm, we're probably at the point where you should call/email our support techs and they can VNC in to see what is going on. Mention this thread, so they'll know the back story. :-) support@trms.com Thanks, and apologies for the prolonged frustration. -
Inappropriate?Does the video server start playing the file or not?
I'm not sure because it is a live satellite feed we are switching to.
Does the router make a switch or not?
I will check this on the next hour change.
Does the Event Table have the correct inputs/outputs listed for that event? Yes appears to - What does the "slot" number refer to? (in the Events Table)
Can you force the show to play on air from the video server? THis brings up a question; When I go into the Cablecast on the VSX4 it is not set up at all (router addresses, channels, etc.) Does the Cablecast on the VSX 4 have to be set up identical to the Cablecast on the Carousel box? I am thinking no, but I could be wrong.
Does the Cablecast version on server match the version of the Control Modules on the SX-4?
Yes -
Inappropriate?John,
I swear, I didn't change a thing and when I went into the control room to see if the router was going to make a switch or not at 4pm. It worked as normal. One of two things happened, 1. I did do an autopilot send on the old schedule, even though I thought we did it last Friday. or
2. The TRMS guys went in on VNC when I wasn't looking this afternoon and made some setting changes. I did connect on VNC earlier but did not get a response from anyone.
THanks, -
So, just to be clear, things are working okay now? Don't want to leave you hanging if things are still broken. -
Inappropriate?John,
THings are working ok although I am finding that not all of our Video files are playing out. I think this is an incompatibility regarding the files. I hear audio playing but no video. I have played back other files that I recorded on the VSX and they seem to play back fine. All of the files that are not playing back are ones that I encoded on a Mac Pro and I thought I encoded as MPEG files. What is your recommendation for a file format, rate, and software. It seems that what I am using is not working. I am using a MacPro for encoding and thought I encoded using Quicktime. Should that work? -
Inappropriate?Have a look at Jeremy's "Exporting Video for SX" walk through on our website: http://www.trms.com/community/trainin...
He shows you which settings to use for h.264 exporting on Adobe Premier, Final Cut Pro, and Apple Compressor.
If you'd rather not do h.264, there is a list of compatible formats in the back of the SX Setup Guide, which can also be found on our website here:
http://www.trms.com/community/documen...
The SX servers can play back lots of formats, but the exact codecs, wrappers, resolutions, and bitrates are quite specific, so make sure that you're conforming to what is listed in the chart, and things should be okay.

Inappropriate? You might find the "Exporting Video for SX" training video helpful. It's in the Cablecast section on the training vids page: http://www.trms.com/community/trainin...
It will walk you through exporting video using the h.264 codec in a Quicktime wrapper for Final Cut, Compressor, or Premiere. From there, you could save the settings as a preset so you can easily recall them later.
For MPEG2, you want to make sure the video is 720x480; audio sample rate is at 48khz; and check "Multiplex MPEG1 Layer 2 Audio". You might want to rename the m2t extension to mpg.
A more detailed list of compatible formats can be found in the Additional Information section of the SX Setup Guide located on: http://www.trms.com/community/documen... -
tee hee, beat ya! :) -
nice. at least we're consistent! ;-)
