Can cablecast playback more than just MPEG files?

can cablecast playback other types of files than MPEG method using cablecast DVD import, or what was recorded on the encoder? I am looking to be able to take AVID Media files, and send them directly to cablecast for playback by-passing the DVD method. IT appears cablecast is very specific in only playing back one type of file format, rather than multiple.
