Carousel Hourly Schedule

I am a new user of Tighrope Carousel and Cablecast. I am curious if there is a simple method of displaying groups of bulletins at specific time intervals. Such as the Cablecast CG display from the top of the hour to 5 minutes past the hour and then a different group from 5 minutes past the hour to 10 minutes past – and so on, without having to create 24 groups with the appropriate time slots? I can get groups to play the hourly schedule by creating 24 groups. (from 1:05 PM to 1:10 PM – 2:05 PM to 2:10 PM – 3:05 PM to 3:10 PM)

Is it also possible for Carousel to read text files and create multiple bulletins instead of shrinking the text with the autosize. In other words have the Carousel create as many pages (bulletins) as necessary to display the entire text file?

You'll have to do the "24 groups" method of scheduling bulletins. We have case in our bugtracker to add more levels of bulletin scheduling, but at the moment it isn't on our devel schedule.

If you turn your text into an RSS feed, you can use the RSS bulletin to read the text data, and it will be smart enough to create as many bulletins as needed, without shrinking the text. You can either publish the feed on the web somewhere and point the bulletin at that URL, or, you can upload the xml directly to the bulletin itself.

    Hope this helps,

    Inappropriate?
I'm wondering if there has been anymore work in bulletin scheduling, as it applies to the original question?

I'm looking for strategies and ideas for implementing an hourly news/weather/traffic break.

This is what I have so far:

Throughout the daily schedule we'd like to switch from CableCast to Carousel to display a group of dynamic bulletins featuring local weather/news/traffic. My simple solution was to schedule Carousel so that during the day only that group of boards ran and during the evening, the rest of our full bulletin board cycle played. Then, on the cablecast side, we'd just schedule in gaps in program at the top and bottom of the hour, forcing Cablecast to default to Carousel where it would display our dynamic news boards.

The problem: About 80% of our city gets a feed of the California Channel which is currently routed through the cable company instead of through us. Like, the cable company lays the Cal. Cahnnel feed on top of our outgoing signal- Carousel.

The other 20% get cable through the phone company, phone company does not have the Cal. Channel, so the Fios customers see our Carousel all morning. Which means I can't really have them look at the same 4-5 screens all morning.

The "Is this doable?" question: Can I schedule a group of Carousel bulletins? Like, consider carousel as an input device, like a DVD Player or video server. In addition, I'd only want to schedule one group of bulletins, not the entire cycle.

Summary: I want to schedule Weather and Traffic at the top and bottom as a Cablecast show that is made up of a specified group of Carousel bulletins.

happy I’m curious and wondering my happyface turned frowny once I selected it??

Hey DJ, thanks for the thorough analysis, this is helpful. Could you maybe post these thoughts as a new "Idea" topic, so other users can say "me too!" :-) I want to make sure everyone (including those at TRMS) gets a chance to see it. --John
