Commercial Insertion
Some of the programs that we record into the cablecast system we would like to replay back in the future with different commercials inserted (clients want updated spots for replays that are 6 months from original play date). Any suggestions or is this something TRMS is looking to work with in the future?

Inappropriate?I'd say that depends on how you're running the commercials now. If they've pre-inserted into the show then i'd say you could simply insert an updated add for the new runs in the future (or give it a new showID, noting its the same show with updated commercials.)
Otherwise, if you have separate show and commercial "chunks" in your schedule, you should just be able to swap out the commercials for something more current. Hope this helps!

Inappropriate?Right now we record the shows as one whole segment. 30 min. show with show segements and commercials for one total runtime. Will using more than one reel in each show tie up more than one playback deck? Say I have a show with 3 segements and minute commercial breaks in between each segment....so 5 reels total (1,3,5 = show content and 2,4 = min. long commercials). Can these 5 play back-to-back-to-back..etc. on just one SX playback? Issue being we control 4 separate TV channels from one SX 4 server. Thanks for your help.

Inappropriate? The SX does need a few seconds to load and stage the video file its about to play, so in your case it won't work. If you were only using two of the outputs it could work, as out 1/2 could be for the first channel and 3/4 for the second channel, thus always allowing a "spare" channel to load the next content.
For your case, I would either make a new showID with the new commercials inserted, or if you're not concerned with losing the original, just overwrite it on the server. Overwriting it would be easier from a scheduling standpoint, but weaker from an archival standpoint. Let me know if I can be of any more help! -
Inappropriate? So, if I were to get an SX2 and run one channel, what Jon is asking would be plausible, with the show reels running out of one output and the router switching to output 2 for commercials?
Then, on the web display, would it come up as
12:00- show-reel 1
12:10- commercial break
12:11- show- reel 2
etc... -
Also, how do reels affect VOD files? Are they compiled as a single video, or is a playlist created bsed on the reels?
