Compix setup for DSK
Have an extra Compix SDI card and want to hook-up to use DSK. I may be missing this in the manual but how do I add the the system (computer with Compix card) to be controlled by the Cablecast. Is this a device with module control, or other? Do I connect serial (232 or 422) or IP? Please excuse me if I've missed this in the manual - OR - could you please direct me to the manual pages - have read D.1 in manual DSK, but need some hardware info as well. Thanks

Hi Dave!
You didn't miss anything, unfortunately this isn't in the current Cablecast manual. Good news is we are in the process of rewriting the manual to include this type of information. Anyway, I will try to shed some light on the DSK setup.
Cablecast will control the 'Compix' machine over IP. You will need to assign a static IP to this machine and create a Control Module Host' in Cablecast (System Settings, Control Module Hosts).
We will also need to install the Cablecast Control Modules software on the compix computer. There will be an application called "CablecastDSK.exe" that needs to be running on the Compix computer. When this application is launching you will need to click on the "Configure" button (similar to Carousel). In this screen you will enter the server address and select which channel of Cablecast you wish to use the DSK.
From here there is some additional options within Cablecast. From the Main Menu of Cablecast goto System Settings, Channels, <your>, DSK. You can adjust the Crawl, Bug, and Bug Text properties from this area.
Feel free to give me a call or shoot me an email if you have any problems getting this up and running.

Inappropriate? For those of you that have Compix DSKs up and running, which product are you using, and if those are no longer being sold, what Compix product would you recommend purchasing at this point, that is both cost-effective and will work seamlessly with Cablecast?
We love our DSK feature, and are still using it with our TV One Corioscan devices. I'd like to spec out something a little better.
Thanks!

In my case, I broke apart my dual channel Compix Cynerg SDI. So I kept one card in the old CG and put the other card in another computer (which is now running fine with the DSK). I'm SD-SDI in our facility, so my needs bump up the price significantly. We bought the Cynerg just over two years ago, and the price came in around ~$11K. As it is a dual-channel system - a WAY bit overpriced just to use the DSK. If I had to buy an SDI verison, I would seriously look at the SDI Portable To-Go solution (listed at $6295). I have the analog version of the To-Go solution and it works pretty well.
I truely wish Compix still sold their cards individually like they use too. I actually was in the process to purchase a card with the DSK plugin (about 3 or 4 years ago - A.Stark led me on...), and Compix came out with their new pricing and bundle and wiped out the individual purchase. It's what I get for taking my time.
In terms of future purchase, I don't know what I would be willing to spend. From my perspective, if I was to drop a full $10-$15K on a CG solution for our DSK control, I would certainly push TRMS to add options for better overlay, customization, etc. type features to help me get more value out of just a bug, crawl, and text (this is no dig on TRMS). In the end, the best solution for the price might be something completely different - maybe a more master control solution with CG from a Inscriber or other CG solution.
I’m ok today!
