Date/Time disappears when text outline deselected

The date/time display works correctly when text outline is selected. However, when it is deselected, the date/time vanish (the background rectangle is unaffected), and I notice that the (not selected) outline opacity is forced to 0%.

Has anyone else had this problem, and is there a solution?
