DVD Import
I have been reading a bit on hear about a Cablecast DVD Import. Where can I get this? Is this putting DVD's into a computer with a DVD player or do I need to hook a DVD player up to my routing system that can go into my Cablecast server?

Inappropriate?Hi Jon,
Our DVD Import software is included with all SX servers. DVD Import is an application that will create an Mpeg 2 file from a DVD for playback on our video servers (VS4, VSX, SX). It is designed to be run on any machine running Windows XP/2000 with a DVD drive.
Check out this post for more information on the use of DVD Import <http://gsfn.us/t/lp5>.

Inappropriate?Hey John,
You can get the DVD Import tool by sending a request to us at Support@trms.com The program is installed on a system on your network with a dvd drive and is saved to that local system. Then you move the file across your network to the content drive on the video server. -
Inappropriate? How many computers can we install the program on?
-
Inappropriate? We had an error on one of our computers. "Error: Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)"
Any ideas what this might be? -
Inappropriate? That error is your DVD ROM drive not able to read from the disc. Some drives are more tolerant than others, but the disc is probably scratched.

Inappropriate?I am looking for the DVD Import Tool. Is it called exactly that? If not, what is the file name?
Which TRMS manual provides instruction, even the file name?
So do I move the installer or the app itself to another computer over my network?
Is the app or installer available for download from the TRMS Web site?
Thanks,
Lance

The most recent installer is called "Cablecast DVD Import 5.0.1 exe" and it can be obtained by asking TRMS support (support@trms.com) for a private software download key. Our support crew will send you an email containing a link to download the installer.
Once you have the installer, you'll need to execute the installer to place the DVD Import program onto a computer at your organization. The installer will ask you where on that computer you'd like the program to be installed. It defaults to your Program Files folder.

Make sure you choose to install it onto a computer that has a DVD drive. Don't install it onto a Tightrope SX video server, as that server doesn't have a DVD drive, and even if it did, the import process is very processor intensive, which could affect the video playback quality of your server.
Which TRMS manual provides instruction, even the file name?
Actually, I'm not sure if the DVD Import tool is described in a manual. Sorry about that. Hopefully this reply will serve as a reference to get you started.
Once it has been installed, the name of the program that you will run is "Cablecast DVD Import.exe".
After launching the program, you'll select the drive letter that contains the DVD you wish to import. Next, select the title and chapter of the program on the DVD that you want imported. Next, give the file a meaningful name. You can also specify a Cablecast ShowID so the file will be recognized as that show in Cablecast. Finally, click the Import button. You'll be asked to choose a location to save the imported file.

After the import finishes, you should transfer the imported file onto your Cablecast video server for playback.
So do I move the installer or the app itself to another computer over my network?
Once you have downloaded the installer, copy that installer to the computer you'd like to use to import DVDs. (You could also choose to download it directly to that computer using the link in the email you receive from TRMS Support.) Run the installer on that computer. Do not install on Computer A, then copy the program files to Computer B. Always run the installer on the computer on which you'd like to have the software.
Is the app or installer available for download from the TRMS Web site?
It is not available as a public download at this time. You'll need to contact support at support@trms.com to request a download key specific to you.
I hope this is helpful.
