Encoder 1 & 2 recording at different qualities.
I have both SX Encoder 1 and SX Encoder 2 set to "MPEG2 IBP 4:2:0 @ 15mb/s" but when we recorded a show from an SVHS deck at the exact same time with the same length, the file for SX1 was 5 GB (and better quality) while the file for SX2 was 1 GB (and poor quality). Why is this? Is there some way to change this?

Hi Jon,
Is it possible that the second (lower quality) encode was started from the SX Configuration app in the system tray instead of the Cablecast web interface?
The system tray app was designed to be a testing/diagnostic encode option, so it is hardcoded to always encode at a paltry 4mb/s, regardless of how you have the device configured in Cablecast.
If you create an encode on each device from the web interface, is the quality still different?

I’m hoping this is the problem

John,
You are right the lower configuration was started by the Configuration app in the system tray. We tried to encode (by going to the force matrix menu) and going to the drop down on SX encoder 1 & 2 then hitting record "dev only". The first one starts out alright, but the second one comes up with an error creating output file (check your port/setting). I assume this is because they are both trying to create a file names ".mpg" on the same hard drive. Best way around this? Can we name the files before force recording? Can we send each SX to a separate hard drive?
Thanks. -
Inappropriate? If you're using Cablecast for the encoding on both of the encoders, check the "Record Quality" for each encoder under Location Settings, IO tab, Devices. Make sure both encoders are set to the desired quality.

Inappropriate?Hi Jon,
In the force menu, next to the encoder name is a little arrow which, if you click on it, will reveal a "show ID" text field.
If you enter a value in this field, it will use that value for the name of the file when you do a "dev only" encode.

Does this help?
-John
I’m happy

Inappropriate?PERFECT!
Just what we were looking for. Thanks for the help.
Any suggestions on what setting we should set our encoders for live basketball games?
I’m thankful
