Final Cut export settings for Cablecast compatibility
We have your Cablecast version 4.2. I edit video in Final Cut Pro and have a question about how to output the video so it can go directly to the server for broadcast. Right now we have to output to .mov, burn a DVD and go through too many steps to be able to complete the task.
Can you give me details if there is a way to export from Final Cut so the files would be compatible with Cablecast?
Thank you.

For those of you running an SX Server, Jeremy has created an awesome training video for this, on our website, you can find it here. Click on "Exporting Video for SX"

Inappropriate? As Cablecast will directly play QuickTime encoded movies, we do not really do much from Final Cut. Currently we are exporting our timelines using "QuickTime Conversion", format "QuickTime Movie', using the "LAN/Intranet" use setting. The only caveat is to make sure you set the video size (click the "Options" button) to NTSC 720x480 4:3.
This produces very good quality H.264/AAC QuickTime movies at about 600MB per hour. -
I forgot one thing .... you should check to make sure your version of Cablecast will do this. We operated on Cablecast 4.7.x using QuickTime for more than 18 months. -
Inappropriate?Karen, you need to see what server you have. We have had 3 video servers:
VS4, VSX and SX servers
If you have Cablecast 4.2, you probably have a VS4 server. If that is the case, the VS4 plays MPEG2 files only. You will need to export from Final Cut as MPEG2 with PCM audio. -
Inappropriate? You can use Compressor versions 2 or 3 to create MPEG Program Streams that are compatible with the SX servers.
In Compressor 2, choose a DVD preset, duplicate it, then open it in the Inspector. Click on the Extras tab and check the box for "Multiplexed MPEG-1, Layer 2 Audio. This will create an MPEG-2 Transport Stream with MPEG-1 Layer II Audio. You'll need to change the resulting file's extension from .mts to .mpg and it should work on the SX-2 without issue.
In Compressor 3, open the MPEG-2 presets folder and choose the Program Stream preset.
