H.264 frame size 720x480 or 720x486?
Which frame size should I use for SX? 720x480 or 720x486? The spec sheet I received from the engineer noted that the frame size for all video formats is 720x486, but as I was looking for a recommended setting for Compressor I noticed that the frame size in the recommended settings was 720x480. Please advise, Thanks

Inappropriate?Kris,
Sorry for the confusion. We do indeed play back at 720x486, but generally don't have an issue with 720x480 depending on whats doing the encoding.

Inappropriate? Thanks Chad, Do you know how cablecast handles the video in a 720x480 situation. Does it scale the video, up-rez by interpolating fields, or does it place the 480 lines in the 486 frame?
Encoding is handled by Episode or Compressor, and I have seen soft looking video and Macroblock artifacts on screen with an mpeg-2 file at 720x480. I have a feeling that this is a compression issue and not the playback off the server. I just wanted to make sure I know how the server handles the video on playback.
Thanks again,
Kris

Inappropriate?Kris,
The SX places 480 lines in the 486 frame. I actually did see an issue we're addressing with Progressive video at 480 that I was able to resolve by having the customer change her encodes to Bottom Field First. It didn't quite look fuzzy but had what I'd describe as a film effect.
