I heard a rumor that you guys have released some monitor control software. How does it work? Where can I get it?

The rumors are true!
There are two options for controlling the monitors.
The 'Use Windows power management' method uses the power management features built into windows. This is the same technology that puts your monitor to sleep after a period of inactivity.
The 'Use serial port control' method sends data out the serial port to control the monitor. This can be used for displays that do not work properly with windows power management and that have a serial port with an available protocol.
The Carousel Monitor Control application does not come with predefined control codes for controlling monitors via the serial port. It is the responsibility of the installer to find the codes for the particular display they are controlling. The Power on string and Power off string fields allow you to enter monitor control codes in hexadecimal format. Strings are two character hex values. For example, FFOD = decimal 255 then 13. Use a comma ‘,’ for a 500ms delay between characters.

Inappropriate?Hey, you know what would a great addition to this software? For use with the serial interface, it would be nice if a "loss-of-signal" function could be added. In other words, if a thief comes in, manages to disconnect the montior and tries tro make off with it, immediately once the serial connection is unplugged, the player sends an E-Mail alert to a designated address, like the building security department.
Would such a thing be possible? -
Inappropriate? We have a Sharp LCD that needs commands of POWR 0 and POWR 1 to tell the monitor to go to standby or normal mode. What is the conversion to hexadecimal?
I’m curious

Inappropriate?I finally found the ASCII chart on another link. That should help me get it working.
Thanks,

Inappropriate?Hello Zach,
Monitor control monitoring display security, I like it! I have added your suggestion to our list of possibilities.
I’m always impressed with creativity!

Jennifer, something else to consider along with that-- an accessory for the Carousel appliances that is a little computer speaker... maybe powered by a USB soundcard, that, when loss of signal occurs, it plays either an obnoxious alert tone, or a prerecorded message. That way the would-be-thief might just take off when the alert begins. Of course, with such a feature it would be good for the security dispatcher to be able to deactivate the alert after the situation has passed. Maybe the E-Mail could have a link for them to click to access an admin page to turn off the alert. Just brainstorming. -
Thanks for your ideas Zach!
