How to play duplicate shows, simultaneously, on multiple channels
Hi,
I found this question posted previously, but I could not find the answer.
We would like to schedule the same SHOW on two (or more) channels at the exact same time. From the router perspective, this is a logically simple request, to route a source to multiple outputs at once. When we attempt to schedule the second show, we get a conflict notice.
For the most general case, this could be a playout from the SX-4 server, a tape os DVD, or a live feed.
I suspect the SX-4 case is solved by selecting different outputs. I see this allows one channel to be bumped, etc. without worrying about the other channel(s) The physical media and live feed cases, however, have me totally stumped.
FWIW, We're using a Sierra Video switch with serial control.
Thanks,
John

Inappropriate?Hello John,
Admittedly, this is a use case that Cablecast doesn't handle very well at the moment. There is a workaround, however.
Your best bet is to schedule the show normally on channel A, then create two manual events on channel B, one to take to the playback device at the start time, and one to take away from the device when the show finishes.
To create these manual events, add a new manual run to the schedule on channel B, by clicking the "New" button and adding two manual runs:

Click on the first new event link to edit its properties. Give it a descriptive name, then select the playback device that autopilot assigned the show to play back from on channel A. Make sure to set the Action to "None." This will simply perform the switch to the device, without sending the device a command that would interrupt playback. (You can keep the Length field to the default zero value.)

Edit the second manual event in a similar manner, but this time select the device that you want to be switched to after the show is over (usually your Carousel bulletin board).
Then schedule the first event to take place when the show is supposed to start, and schedule the second event to fire at the end of the show.
That should do a split route. It's a bit cumbersome, but it should work.
I hope this helps,
-John
