Linking File to Show
Just wondering the best way or maybe some tips people have for taking a file of video and attaching it to a show you have created in cablecast. Right now we are setting up the record schedule to record the show, but we would like to import files from Final Cut or other editing software to then link them to the show and put those into the channel schedules to run.

Good question. It's a lot easier than you think.
Cablecast uses a ShowID to reference the files on the video server. There is no manual "linking up" process involved.
For example, if we create a show record for a Jefferson vs. Kennedy Football game in Cablecast, it will return a ShowID, for example '443'.
On the content drive of the video server we can simply name this file '443.mpg' or '443.mov'. All the system needs to "link up" the file is for it to start with the ShowID, with this system, we are able to use a naming convention that makes a little more sense. Such as '443-Jefferson vs Kennedy Football.mpg'
One final twist comes if there are more than one reel in the show record (2 media files for one show). In this instance we name the digital files '443-1.mpg' and '443-2.mpg' or we can name them '443-1-JFK vs JHS Part 1.mpg' and '443-2-JFK vs JHS Part 2.mpg'. The system will recognize this as a two part show and play back both parts, even though you only need to schedule the show record once.

Inappropriate?I didn't know you could add characters after the show ID (or reel #) to the filename. Can you put any legal characters after the '-' ?
I’m intrigued
-
Inappropriate?I think we get a little angry at single quotes, other than that, any legal character should work.
-
Inappropriate?Makes sense. The only problem I am seeing now is that when I renamed a file and tried to play it back, the server would not play it. I renamed the file "27-Cardinal's Nest" as the show ID was "27". When I scheduled it to play, I watched the autopilot Large Matrix and saw it switch (as well as our switcher) switch over to the right input, but status stayed at "Stopped". Any ideas why this would be?
-
Inappropriate?Sorry, it was the "Force Matrix" not "Large Matrix"....just wanted to get the correct terminology.

Inappropriate?Hmmm. Not sure. I'd like to take a peek at that error. It doesn't sound familiar. Can you contact out support department so we can take a peek?

Inappropriate?I tried ripping a DVD and making the file associate with the show I created in Cablecast. The show ID was "44" so I named the file "44 - Army Newswatch". When I schedule it to play it will recognize the file "44 - Army Newswatch" but keeps it as "Stopped".

It never changes from this. If I try forcing it to play with the actions options on the left it gives me an error at the top.

I tried going to the actual Cablecast machine and playing the file out with the SX Configuration tool in the lower right corner of the screen. It just plays black, but other files play out.
The file is an MPEG Movie with codecs: MPEG1 Muxed with 640X480 dimensions.
Any ideas what might be wrong?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Hi Jon,
My guess is that the file format you're using isn't one of the supported formats that the SX server can play back. Have a look at the last page of the "Cablecast SX Setup Guide" located on our documentation site at http://www.trms.com/community/documen...
The last page of that guide has a table of supported formats, codecs, resolutions, sample rates, etc. Can you transcode that file into one of the listed formats?
-John
I’m hoping this is the problem.
