On-Demand-Flash-Video
It would be a FANTASTIC feature if you have the option to output a Flash Video on the ODP server. It makes it 100x easier to view.
It would be easier to embed and play, as we'll. Sort of like a You-Tube experience.

Inappropriate?I agree, Flash would be killer. I can't really predict the future, but I imagine we'll investigate it somewhere down the road.
I've added it to our bugtracker as well, just so we don't forget. [8D]

Inappropriate?I can [8]predict the future[8] and I guarantee that Flash Video will soon be the best way to stream video clips.
Look how easy it is (In The Loop, is the only video converted right now).

You have no issues playing a Flash Movie like some people do with Windows Media Player.
If you look at local, national and worldwide online new sites almost all of them are using embedded flash video.
You should move this up on your list. I am really not [:(]happy[:(] with the Video-On-Demand server. I always have some sort of complications with it, but every time I do a flash conversion I have 0 Problems.[:D][:D][:D]

Inappropriate? At ABC News, we are moving all of the video we provide to third parties over to Streaming Flash. Many are using progressive download Flash, some windows media. Generally, they are kicking and screaming their way slowly to streaming as we (specifically the legal department) are forcing them to a streaming flash format. Unless you are going to move your hosting to a CDN, I can't imagine any of you want to do literal on demand streaming, but a progressive download. Make sure you are clear on this when you make requests to the TRMS guys.

Inappropriate?Yo all. Here's the dillio, from my understanding.
For us to sell a VOD server that transcodes to On2, which is flash, it would cost about 15 thousand dollars, instead of the very reasonable amount it costs today. For us to provide an On2 video encoder and then host the serves would cost a very pretty penny, but not as much as 15k. I think we might be able to get it for a reasonable price, but On2 wants an incredibly unreasonable amount of money for their SDK, which would allow us to automate the encoding.
The bottom line: On2, which is the codec that flash uses, is licensed by people who price their product way out of the PEG market. I've talked to their VP of business development, and he sympathized, but was not ultimately helpful. I'll try again. Maybe things have changed.
Frankly, I'd like to see H264 thrown in Flash 9. It's a better codec.
