Outdated PSA's
Hello -
I would like to know how any of you handle PSA's that have a "Kill Date" and the show record for that PSA.
Currently, when a PSA is dead we archive the video file to a different hard drive. We also Clear the show record so that particular PSA no longer shows up on our system when we are searching for PSAs to fill time between shows. I
The problem Is I don't like the idea of erasing the show record because if/when we generate a report this information wouldn't show up. It would be great if we could archive a show record so it no longer appears as air able.
any suggestions on how to better use the TRMS cablecast?
Thanks

Inappropriate?Chris:
This is what disposition is about. Set your old PSA's to "Killed" by going into their media record and setting the disposition field to that status. which you can make in Location Settings: Shows.
To start from scratch, follow these steps:
1: Set a disposition to use for old PSA's. Go to "Location Settings: Shows: Dispositions". Make a new disposition called "Killed". Make sure that you un-check the "Allow Assignment" check box. This means that if you do try to automate it, Cablecast will throw an error during your autopilot send "XXXX Show ID's disposition does not allow assignment..."
2: From the main menu, go to "Shows: Find Show". Click the "+" button twice to make two new filters. Your search will be:
A Blank title
No date
Disposition : Not Equals : Killed
Category : Equals : PSA
3: Click the "search" button
4: Once Cablecast finds all of the shows that match that criteria (which should be 0 at this point), you'll see a "save" button. Click it and it will ask you for a name. Call it "Active PSAs"
5: Assign the "PSA" category to all of your PSAs from now on.
6: When you want to "kill" a PSA, click on the link to the right of the "Media:" label. It will be the PSA's reel name. Set the disposition to "Killed"
In the schedule, if you click the "No Show Data" link in a blank record, it gives you the option to find a show by a saved search. Use your new search will be there.
As you add PSAs and make others "Killed", the search results will update automagically.
Finally, every time that you delete a show record, we harm a puppy. DON'T DELETE SHOW RECORDS. They are your source of income and job security when your board asks you what you've been doing with your time! Better to say "Look at all of these programs" than to try to explain why you've run 700 blank shows in the past 12 months.

Inappropriate? Thanks soo much for the step by step. I feel sorry for the many many puppies we have tortured since we got our system up and running this past October. Im guessing up near 100 or so :(
I think this "tutorial" would be a great addition to the TRMS website. It would be great if other users or you TRMS GODS can post a collection of these, either as a "sticky" at the top of the forums or in a separate category. It should be easy to find and not require us to read each post for tips. It will really help us new users get the most out of our Cablecast systems!
Thanks Again

Inappropriate?Chris,
You're absolutely right. Tightrope needs:
Wikis
Blogs
Knowledge Bases
Customer Logins (see your software warranty, order status, RMA, history, download manuals)
and a better forum
We're working hard on all of that.... except the Wiki. I just came up with that one right now.

Inappropriate?Andy,
A place to upload things like bulletin packages, backgrounds, and our own user manuals would be a nice thing to have. You can create the best documentation ever and I know I will still have to create my own end user directions because the end user only needs to know about the things I choose to give them access to and others might benefit from things like that.
