Recording Live shows- Playback of MPEG version in New program in Evening Schedule
We record live programming from our studio (several shows a week that are in a series for a semester) that we then playback in the evening. In the past I would create a show in Cablecast that was the "live" version. Then for the evening replay I would reschedule that same show, going in and changing it from a live event to an MPEG. That works, but causes me to have to update the schedule late in the afternoon. I was told by Grayson that I could create another show for the evening playback, but I am having a difficult time connecting the MPEG recording from the live show to the evening version show for replay. The Cablecast kicks out a message upon autosend that says it cannot find the files.

Hello Shawn, David, and RPiekar,
We do have a feature request (case #2606) for expanded record run and playback options. We agree that there needs to be better way to accomplish this scenario.
Right now there is not a way for the DSK to automatically "brand" programs with bug text, the run type has to be set manually. I will add this functionality to the feature request.
I’m confident!

Inappropriate? We do this every day at our station for airing Democracy Now!
Here is how I do it.
I have two shows in the System show ID 1 and show ID 6 (don't ask what the middle 4 where for)
Everything about the shows is the same (length, cue, Title, CG-title.. blah blah blah) except for the sources. One is my satellite feed (show 6) and the other is the mpeg server (show 1)
In the morning I schedule show 6, and set it as a record run, but I change the file key from the defualt "6-1-Democracy Now!.mpg" to "1-1-Democracy Now!.mpg"
Then in the afternoon when the show airs off our video server I just schedule show ID 1
When you send autopilot it will say that it can not find the file, but that it needs to be there before a certain time. With this method, the file will be there because it will be recorded in the morning.
Hope my explanation helps.

Inappropriate?I just spoke with Grayson, and I think I am clearer now on how to set this up with the file # from the morning record program. I now know that you have to include the file # of the evening playback MPEG in the record set-up when setting up the live show.

Inappropriate? There must be a better way to accomplish this... we have a daily live morning program, and I do the first procedure described above (change the format from a live feed to an mpeg each day, then re-send autopilot). I would rather do this because I don't want to create new show IDs for essentially the same program.
Maybe there could be some kind of setting in the media, which would allow only the FIRST run of a program to take on one format, then all the rest of the runs belong to the second format.
I’m optimistic

Inappropriate? This (change the format from a live feed to an mpeg each day, ...) has been discussed numerous times before over the years - I don't know if there is an actual feature request. Specifically, the idea that on one show record I can manage a variety of media/sources.
For example, you have the Live satellite feed and then you have either recorded it to another format (server, DVD, etc.). The idea is that along with managing reels, the show record would have the different formats of the show, and you could schedule the show based on the need of the moment. For many, we don't keep our servers full of all of our programming, instead we archive to another media source. Well if I originally had it as an MPEG, and then months later have deleted from the server, and want to reschedule - to play a DVD for example, I need to change the show record - and in effect change the reporting and tracking meta data of the show.
So, let me request again the need to manage multiple media formats on the same show record - and schedule with that show record. Maybe a radio button to determine for air and scheduling. And don't get me started about dispositions being buried...will post another topic for that :) -
Inappropriate?Chad, can you tell me if a feature request was put in for this topic? Specifically, a way to have a particular show have a 'live' format for its first run, then a 'recorded' format for all subsequent runs, WITHOUT further user intervention (such as resending autopilot or creating a separate show ID).
As a sub-request, is there a way to tell DSK to automatically 'brand' the live run of the program with one bug text (i.e. "LIVE") and the subsequent runs with another bug text (i.e. "RECORDED EARLIER")?
I’m still optimistic!
