Remote Switching
I am being told that the Cablecast SX4 we are ordering with a Knox RS8x8HB router/switcher will allow for remote switching from anywhere with an internet connection. So if I need to change the switch from the bulletin board to go live here at the school all I’ll need to do is log onto the system and change to the input I have the live feed on and I’m good to go. Is this true? Thanks!

Inappropriate? Most Definitely true.... There is a major catch though.
You must have access to your system from the internet. For example if your behind a really strict firewall, or you just connect with a standard cable modem and don't have a static IP, you will need special settings on your network to make this work.
Its definitely doable, which is why a lot of us use Cablecast. But you should talk to the person who is in charge of your network, so that you have all your ducks in a row.

Inappropriate? Thanks Ray! Great news because I thought I would need a special net ready switch. We have a great IT guy here at the school. I can't wait to get this system going.

Inappropriate?Hey paulmamato,
Worth noting is our brand new Cablecast 4.8 manual which was released earlier this week. It might be worth your while to download that now and give it a look-over so you can be familiar with the system before it arrives.
You can find it on our documentation site: http://www.trms.com/community/documen...
Or here's the direct link to the PDF (~20mb): http://www.trms.com.s3.amazonaws.com/...

I’m excited about our manuals!

Inappropriate? Thanks for the info. I'll look it over. Might as well ask another question. :)
So if the high school where I work is the "hub" of our channel 10 broadcasts and I have another school ready to go live when ready using their line drop and modulator all I would need at that point for the other school to go live is to have another router/switcher there? If I'm correct the issue is remotely switching the mod on and off at the different locations to go live etc. -
Inappropriate?Pretty much! If you want to have control of the second locations' router and any playback devices there you would need to have another Cablecast machine on site there. The two Cablecast servers would talk to eachother over the network and one would feed the other in your case.
