Revision request - Time on Cablecast start again?
A thought for the next revision - can you add back the time on the cablecast splash page under the 'coming up' shows? I can never trust my computer clock to be in sync with Leightronix, and it's a handy way to see how much time until the next show.
Thanks

Inappropriate?Tom,
Tightrope can sync time between it's computer and almost all Leightronix equipment.

Inappropriate?I have a Leightronix TCD/IP and it is off by 5mins. We have to lie to our Cablecast to get our shows to play on the hour. I have tried to manually update the time and also tried to sync it to my computer. It works for a megasecond then slips back. I've been frustrated by this for quite a while. That the cost of trying to control one piece of equipment by another. Vendors have a tendency to point the finger at the other guys equipment. Having said that I suspect it is a TCD/IP problem.

Inappropriate?CETV, you are right on the money. Our TCD/IP is as reliable as a monkey truck driver hauling bananas. Everyone likes to say how "rock solid" Leightronix stuff is. Our TCD/IP would always drift, even with TRMS updating its time. Leightronix always said it wasn't their fault and it must be tightrope's. Then a year later they release a firmware revision and one of the bug fixes is for a time drift. And it stil drifted.

Inappropriate?AND, I have a TCD/IP with 2 RP's, a PRO-16 and a Mini-T-Pro, all synced via Tightrope.
I was the user that discovered the error in the Leightronix software and browbeat them to correct it.
Ever since that correction, this system works correctly all the time. All clocks remain synced to within 1 sec.
Now, I'm not inferring that all Leightronix (or any manufacturers equipment!) is all perfect; I'm stating that my system has worked correctly ever since Leightronix corrected the firmware.
What else can I say. Just the facts!!!!

Inappropriate?I hate to keep this going but I just got off the phone with Leightronix's support. They walked me through getting firmware for my TCD/IP. When I mentioned the clock issue to the Leightronix guy and being controlled by Cablecast he immediately went into the bashing of Cablecast, it's their fault blah,blah....
The TCD/IP clock went from being off by 4 mins. to 8 mins with the new firmware. Cablecast would be better off getting as far away from Leightronixs as possible. He said she said over a clock is quite frustrating. -
Inappropriate?I'll chip in here to give you the simple facts, and you can all judge for yourselves what this means.
Cablecast syncs with externally timed devices in one of two cases. First is when you send autopilot, and second is every X seconds, where X is the number entered under "Time Sync" in "System Settings" within Cablecast.
Now as you all can imagine, this is a pretty simple process. The Cablecast server says its X time, so the slave devices thus set their clocks to X time. From that point forward its up to the devices internal clocks to keep ticking correctly until the next time sync. (Again, X minutes as set or the next Autopilot send.)
Now there are two situations I can think of offhand that could throw timesyncing off.
First, if you have more than one Tightrope system set to update your Leightronix or other devices. This actually happened to John Goran, where he had an old machine that wasn't being used but still in the rack and connected to the network. His current system would set the clock to "X" and the old system would then set the clock to "Y" a couple minutes later. What you end up seeing is a "Tug of war" between the two time-sync devices. The solution here is to remove the second time-sync device so only one is trying to change the times.
Second, if you have two types of time-syncing software on your machine, those can actually conflict with eachother on your Cablecast machine. Say at 10AM your Cablecast machine is synced with program A, and at 10:30 it syncs with your Leightronix. Then at 11AM the Cablecast machine syncs with program B, changing its time by a matter of seconds/minutes. The next Leightronix timesync at 11:30AM would then get the time from Cablecast's B timesync program. Again, this is a smaller time "tug-of-war" between two programs on the Cablecast machine.
Now, I'm going to agree with many of your thoughts right now that "Isn't atomic time globally precice? What does the time-sync source matter?" Unfortunately this isn't true, varied time sources can be off by as little as a few seconds to as much as a few minutes. Silly, I know.
So what can be syncing time on your machine? The first place to check is inside System Settings in FrontDoor, the Time Sync menu in there will let you know if the Tightrope Timesync is running, the Windows Timesync via Tightrope (on Versions FrontDoor 4.2 and up I believe.) or if Tightrope isn't handling TimeSync at all. Additionally, Windows XP has a Timesync feature if you double click on the clock in the lower-right and open the third tab. However the XP timesync only goes out once a week I believe. There can also be third-party programs such as AboutTime that could be installed.
A final thing to note is that if you've installed your Tightrope systems on a domain within your facility, Windows will automatically take its time from the domain controller. This can obviously setup even ANOTHER "tug-of-war" scenario between the local timesync and the domain timesync.
Now, add in another factor of what time live programming is coming in via satellite compared to your current timesync, and it's easy to see why we've all had some headaches over this.

Inappropriate?Thank you, Chad. I forgot about that little issue we ran into last year. Multiple time sync sources does make a mess, as I found out.

I did have timesync issues when I first started - it seems to be resolved now.. however, that wasn't the reason I had posted...
I was just thinking it was nice to have the time up on the open page for cablecast, under the 'next 3' shows box. The computer clock doesn't always sybc up, and it's not easy to actually see the leightonix display from where we type. So if it can be put back into the next revision, that would be great.

Inappropriate? This was a nice feature that I miss.
The clocks in the school are a few minutes off of real (and TMS) time. I liked being able to see when programs were to start.
