ripping long dvds - help!
I'm not having any luck with ripping the DVDs we record our meetings on to mpeg - Cablecast DVD import chokes on the file because it's in 6 hour mode, and other programs I've tried don't keep the audio in sync.
I can take the 5 hour meetings and play them real time into an encoder, but would love to find something to speed up the process. I'm using the 1st version of Cablecast DVD import - the 2nd always gave me audio issues.
What do you use to rip from DVD to mpeg for long meetings?
Thanks
Tom

Inappropriate?I had problems when importing long DVDs because the tmp directory used during import was set to my C: partion which had insufficient space. Would work fine for shorter file imports.

Inappropriate?I've had great success doing it from 2 hour mode disks... it seems to hang up trying to do the 6 hour ones...

Inappropriate?I also have to regularly rip 6 hour mode DVDs using CableCast DVD import. Every once in a while I get one that hangs. I have gotten around it by copying the DVD folders to hard drive and burning back to another DVD using Toast or Nero or other burning software.
This only happens about every ten or 15 DVDs though so I have chocked it up to a media problem.
Never any sync issues with audio either.
If the files won't copy perhaps you have an error being produced in the actual recording.

Inappropriate? We use a DVD recorder that allows for variable recording times, and usually set ours to 3:30:00. That's usually plenty of time for most meetings, and allows for slightly better quality than 6 hour mode. Try that if you can and see if that helps.
We have had some weird problems with time and resolution, though nothing to write home about. Sometimes long meetings show up as something other than 720x480, and sometimes the duration shows up as double the actual length. Most times they import fine, but occasionally they choke and have to be encoded real time.
We too had audio sync issues with version 2 of DVD import, and since we went back to version 1, never had the problem again. DVD import is such a killer app, we couldn't possibly keep up our workflow without it!!
Here's another vote for being able to set in/out points on the rip...
