Running bulletins
I have watched all the online tutorials about bulletins, and something seems to be missing. I have created a channel, with 4 zones. I then created a series of Active bulletins for 3 zones, and a weather crawl for the 4th zone. I set all the bulletins to run until manually stopped. On my Carousel system, I have the Display Engine running. I only see one bulletin, running in one zone. The other zones are just showing the Tightrope default image. My question - how do I tell Carousel to run all my active bulletins in all my zones? Is there a "publish" or "run bulletins" step that I missed? Thanks, JR

Inappropriate?John,
Do you have different content playing on the different zones, or is it the same pages? Are you seeing the other zones' content playing on the one zone that is working correctly? It sounds to me like the zone you've been creating bulletins in hasn't been changing to the other zones.
You should see the 'Current Zone' Label change in the upper right corner of the web interface, and your active pages should reflect the different bulletins for the zone you changed too. Does any of this help John?

Inappropriate? For some reason I had to go back and recreate all of the bulletins I had previously setup for each zone. My test bulletins are now running in 3 of the 4 zones on my channel. In the 4th zone I tried to setup a live weather feed, using the dynamic "Weather Bulletin" for my location (Hillsborough, NH). What shows in the Carousel Display is the weather bulletin template, but there is no real time weather information. Should I be seeing live weather updates when I set this up, or do I need to do something more to get a real time weather feed? Thanks, JR

Inappropriate?John-
Weather info is pulled from public servers the Weather Channel operates. It's critical that your Carousel server be connected to the internet with clear and open access to be able to pull down from port 80, which I believe is where we pull our data through.
On top of that, we have seen numerous instances where a local server wasn't feeding for some reason, so I always tell users to try another local site if their first one isn't working.

Inappropriate? My network admin assures me that I have open access to port 80. But I don't get a weather feed. I don't know what you mean by "trying another local site" - can you explain? JR

Inappropriate?I'm probably wrong. But I thought the Carousel's weather bulletins pulled the information via FTP port 21?

Inappropriate?Ray- You're 100% correct, I'm sorry John. We do fetch the file via their FTP site, so that would be port 21. If you could double check on that port John that would be great. What I meant by "trying another local site" was to try another weather site available from the drop down list. Simply to make sure it's not a glitch at your local weather feed.
-Chad -
Inappropriate? We had that issue - the weather service sometimes doesn't actually publish a local weather update, or they change the file names. Try a different county drop down that's close, and see if that works for you as well. We had to use a neighboring county report until the file names came back to their old method of naming...

Inappropriate?FTP via 21 will need authorization for me. To do that< i'll need to enter the web site that the weather crawl accesses into our firewall list of approved sites. What is the http://www.website.com address? Thanks, JR

We pull weather data from ftp://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov on port 21. Hope this helps! --John -
Inappropriate? We added the NOAA weather feed site (ftp://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov) to our firewall so access is not restricted, but the weather bulletin is still not updating. It just displays the generic #OUTLOOK# etc information from the Template. I have tried different counties in New Hampshire, but still am not getting an actual weather feed. Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to get the weather feed to work reliably with a firewall? Thanks, JR
-
Inappropriate?John,
Have you also made sure that Port 21 is open for the Carousel server? -
Inappropriate? We've made sure the firewall is wide open for my Carousel system, and we can access that web site. The weather bulletin is still not updating. JR

Inappropriate?John,
At this point I'm not sure where else to point you so I'm going to have to ask you to submit a trouble ticket on our website and one of our support staff will contact you to help figure out whats going on with that weather feed!
-Chad -
Inappropriate? It's working! When we modified the firewall for full access for the weather bulletin, I didn't go back and also try other counties in NH (as was previously suggested). I just changed counties as an experiment, and I now am getting a live weather feed. Thanks to all for your help. JR
