Setting up Devices and having trouble
Hello everyone, I'm looking to get some devices hooked up to Cablecast. How am I supposed to connect everything together? Does the USB Serial Hub get connected to the SX2 or PRO VOD via USB? and do I then connect all devices to the Serial Hub to control them using a female to female serial cable or USB-Serial?
Thank you,
Jon

Inappropriate? The USB Serial Hub should get connected to your SX2, as I'm imagining that is what is running Cablecast.
How you hookup the devices depends on the devices. If they are serial controlled you would connect them through the serial hub.
Some professional decks are controlled this way, and I bet your routing switcher is too.
If your trying to control consumer decks, dvd players, etc... you probably need an IR controller. I believe tightrope sells one? But these devices are normally connected to the cablecast via serial, so it would be connected to your serial hub.
Your VOD server, and most other digital video servers are controlled over the network. So as long as they are on the same ethernet network as your cablecast machine you should be all good.
Have you tried reading the manual as well?

Inappropriate?Thank you Ray, I have been reading the manual, but it really goes only as far as setting up the channels and such, I wasn't to happy with the documentation they gave us but it does help. We have Cablecast going, carousel is hooked up and running but I just wanted to make sure. Also, We are having a hard time just previewing it on a monitor, which out puts are you using from your system?
thanks again,

Hey Jon, what documentation weren't you happy with? Something of ours? If there's an issue, we'd like to correct it. :-) --John -
Hi John,
Actually right after this comment I checked my email and had one in there from Joe Thompson with a link to your documentation site. At first I wasn't so happy because I had only received the small books that are shipped with the systems, but now I have plenty of reading material that goes in depth!! Thank you for asking though, all is better now! ~Jon -
Okay, great! :) Just wanted to make sure. Thanks, Jon!
