SX2 only playing files with 48khz audio sampling - Help Please
Installed new SX2 today. Won't play files that don't have 48khz audio. Here's the message:
An error occured while forcing. Try again or check the system configuration.
audio samples rate not supported (must be 48khz).
Grayson and I tested playback of mpeg2 files today that played fine from the SX2. Not sure but it looks like those were probably 48khz. Now, most files that have transferred to the new SX2 drives will not play.
Where is the "play all sample rates" field found in the software (I hope)?

Inappropriate?Hey Tom...
Sorry to break the news. The SX will only play 48khz audio. But there is hope on the horizon. You can download FixMpeg from TRMS labs that should convert your files to 48khz.

Inappropriate?Ray, thanks for your response. I just read the very back table of the SX2 manual. Looks like other sampling rates will playback, but they're not MPEG2. We upgraded from the VS4 and did alot of encoding with the VS4's VELA encoder. So what rate did the VELA encode most of our MPEG2 files at? 44khz? 32khz?
This is not right.
How does FixMpeg work anyways? Is is fast? Does it mess with the video or just extract and resample the audio? We have HOURS and HOURS of programming on our server.
I’m going to find out....

Inappropriate? If the video is supported (it sounds like yours is), FixMpeg will copy the video stream and just reencode the audio, it'll be quite a bit faster than real-time.

Inappropriate?hey Tom, could you please call our support team on Monday - (866) 866-4118 x2 and mention case #4420. Supporting alternate sampling rates in mpeg files is currently being evaluated. If you could help us identify what sampling rates you'll be needing and provide us with one or mulitple sample files it'd help us investigate our future options.
I’m happy

Inappropriate? We had this problem when we upgraded from the VS4 - anything we recorded on the internal card couldn't play back on the new server until we fixed the audio. The default audio encode on the card must not be 48k. A bit of a pain - but anything ripped off of DVD was fine using DVD import.
On the plus side, it doesn't take long to reencode the audio for each file.
I’m perturbed but par for the course

Inappropriate?Thank you to everyone for your feedback! Looks like FixMpeg is the ticket. I appreciate all the advice.
I’m grateful

Inappropriate? One Quick Follow-Up! I am noticing that there is a selection field for MPEG bitrates. The software defaults to 4Mbps. If FixMpeg only copies and passes the video portion through, then why this bitrate field? Can it simply copy the MPEG video at different rates without transcoding it (doubtful)? What happens if another bitrate value is selected? I'm very curious about the options present in that menu...!
-
Inappropriate? The codec and bitrate only come into play if you drag file that is not supported. If it is MPEG2 video that is the right size already, it will just be passed through. If it was an HD resolution or bad frame rate or unsupported codec, it would use those options to re-encode the file.

Inappropriate?Ah, that makes sense. Thanks again!
