Tightrope Not Playing Back MPEG 4 File
Hi my name's Kevin Bechet and I work for Woburn Public Access Television. And we use Tightrope to schedule and playback Media. Usually I capture DVD's through the Cablecast DVD Importer, which converts files to MPEG II. Our DVD Cablecast Importer has been freezing up Tightrope recently. So I used a Video Transcoder device to Transcode my Media to MPEG 4, then I draged and dropped my media to my playback server. When I scheduled my program to air it played back black. I know the file works because I previewed the file before I stored it in playback. Any ideas, please help.
Best,

Inappropriate?Kevin,
If you review the list of available formats in your manual (I assume you have a version of the SX server), MPEG4 is listed with very specific parameters:
MPEG4 simple profile/.mov extension/Audio Sample Rate of 32KHz, 44.1KHz, 48KHz/Frame Rate 29.97 fps, etc. I have yet to get an MPEG4 file to play back on my SX2.
As for the import issue of lock-up, that may be caused by the audio setting. Thy clicking on "Options", and change to "Legacy". This may solve that problem, in some cases.
Hope this helps.

Inappropriate? Also, if possible, When making the mpeg2 files, try ripping your DVD on a different machine than your Tightrope machine. That way if there are problems, it will not affect your playback (i.e. crash your server). This might require a second copy of the import software to install on a office computer or another machine in your head end. You would have to check with TRMS to see if it is possible to get a second copy. Or maybe using a different peice of ripping software.
Then just drag and drop onto your server storage array just like you did with the mpeg4 file.
Not sure about the mpeg4 issue. Maybe check with support to get the most recent known good settings to try.
Good Luck

Inappropriate? If you're having trouble with MPEG4 and you're using the right profile, then we'd like to see the file.
The SX servers are still less than a year old, so we're getting files that meet the spec but don't play. Whenever we see one of those files, we like to get them in so that we can make the patch to the driver. So far, we've had about 5 or 10 such cases.
It only makes it a better server! Let us know if this is the case. Thanks!
