Trimming video on a DVD import.

I need to trim a DVD program I received out of house.
The DVD has bars in front of the program and about 30 min. of just black after the program.
Unfortunately, the 'Cablecast DVD Import' only imports the entire DVD. It works great for this but I need to trim the front & end of the program (there are no chapters on the DVD, it's just a straight burn). The Cablecast code guys said they are working on it but I need something ASAP.
The quick fix is to set-up que points when I trigger the program, this will work but it's also eating up about 2 extra gigs of nothing and I have a bunch of these DVD's.
Does anybody know of any software that can trim the unwanted video portions and still keep the fantastic compression of the video in the mpg file AND doesn't take forever to do?
