TV Guide Channel Listing Compatibility
I'm sure a lot of us load our programming schedule onto the TV Guide Channel's listings. Currently this is done entry by entry online, forcing us to enter our schedule into both TV Guide and Cablecast separately. TV guide has a new program coming out called X-List, which will allow us to upload a specially-formatted XML, ASCII, or CSV Excel file. Cablecast can export a text file, but it isn't formatted the way TV Guide needs it and I can't figure a quick way to cut out and clean up all the data in the Cablecast text file.
Would it be possible for Cablecast to output a CSV file, so I can clean it up in Excel? It seems like if this text file could be delimited by commas or tabs, this would work great for those of us manually entering the same data into Cablecast and then TV Guide. If this is already possible or anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.
If TRMS wants to know more about this, please contact me. I'm sure lots of your PEG channel users could use this ability.
Thanks.
Jeff

Inappropriate?Hi Jeff,
I've heard of TV Guide's new A-List and X-List services, and it's something we definitely want to do, however we haven't gotten much information about their XML format, etc. Last I heard, X-List was "near completion." If you have more info, please send it our way so we can see what we can do with it.
As for now, I've entered your request in our release scheduling/planning tool so we can't forget about it. [:)]

Inappropriate?A quick update...
I've been in touch with the team at TV Guide, and they've told me they're going to roll out the X-List service on Sept 15th. Until that time, their format might change depending on what happens with their own testing.
So, I think what we're going to do is wait until the format is finalized (on or around Sept. 15), and at that time take a look at integrating it into a future release of Cablecast.

Inappropriate? This is what TV Guide sent me:
Phase 2: All about X-List (Ingest)
In keeping with the idea of capturing data in new ways, the development of the program known as X-List (Ingest) is near completion. X-List (Ingest), will allow you to upload an XML, Excel CSV or ASCII files to a server that will import into the TV Guide Internal System. Upon receiving this email, if you decide not to go with A-List, we will replace your programming with a 24 hour on-screen generic repetitive title. When the X-List Program is released, you will have an option of staying in A-List or switching to X-List. It is our hope that with the final options of A-List and X-List we have provided you the tools needed to satisfy you as well as your Customer’s needs.
X-LIST Features to come:
A computer with Internet access
Ability to Convert Files to XML Format
E-mail
VERY IMPORTANT INFO:
Please note:
TV Guide does not display Programs of less than 5 Minutes on any of our Products. Please do not use durations less than 5 minutes.
End Days with a total of 1440 Minutes:
Please remember that All days must end at 12AM. The A-List System reads days from 12AM to 12AM, even though technically, the day ends at 11:59PM. Please remember this as you add programs to your days. If you short the day by a minute it will create a hidden gap in the schedule that will turn the calendar day you are working on Orange. We will be releasing a new version of A-List to address this issue, until then be aware that all days must have 24 hours in them.

Inappropriate?Hi John,
X-List service is out for TV Guide.
Any chance in the near future you guys will have something to easily export for TV Guide's new format?

Inappropriate?Hey guys.
I'll get going on this as soon as I finish the projects I'm currently working on. In the mean time, if anyone can send me some sample X-List data files of your schedule that you know work with their service, it would help me out quite a bit.
You can send them to jr@trms.com
Thanks a bunch!
