What does this error message mean?
We've been getting the following error message lately:
CABLECAST-SX4 Error in UpdateDynamicPage(): invalid zip code 9/16/2009 6:01:26 AM error TRMS.Services.Carousel.DynamicUpdater
I'm assuming this has to do with the weather service, and doesn't seem to be affecting operation too much. Should I ignore it?

Hey David,
It's actually possible that it picked an incorrect zip code without your knowledge. :) Lemme explain:
In Carousel 5.2.6, we switched from State/County lookups to zip code lookups. As part of that process, we made a little translator routine to translate the old State/County regions into their corresponding zip codes. The goal was that your existing weather bulletins wouldn't need to be manually updated when you upgraded to 5.2.6, as the translation ran automatically.
That said, it's possible that we goofed on translating the specific region you had selected, which would have resulted in a wrong zip code. (There are a lot of counties and zip codes in the US! :) We did our best to make sure everything was accurate, but one may have slipped through the cracks.)
If you can remember the region that you had before, and what the bad zip code was, let us know. We could then look through our translator routine and make sure that it translates correctly in the future.
-John
(As a sidenote, once you've corrected the bad zip code by hand, it shouldn't ever be a problem again.)

Inappropriate?Hmm, sounds like it doesn't like the zip code that's in one of your weather bulletins. My guess is that one of them isn't updating correctly any more.
I'd suggest perusing through your weather bulletins and making sure the zip code looks correct in each one, then saving the bulletin again.
Let me know if that helps. Also, if you find a wacky zipcode, let me know that too. :-)
Thanks, David!

Inappropriate?Hey John -
For some reason, the zip code was wrong. There's only one zip here in the city, so I can't see how it would have been wrong. Is this something that could have shifted on its own?
I’m stupid

Inappropriate?Hey John -
I knew something had changed - mostly because for a couple of days I couldn't find where to select the zip code. If I remember correctly, in previous versions it was in the settings.
The zip code had the correct numbers for the first three (019) but the last two were wrong. The correct ones are "70" and I believe the wrong numbers were "29" - although I can't be sure.
It seems to be all set now, though. Thanks!
DG
I’m once again in the correct zip code

I continue to get the error message regarding the zip code. I checked this morning and the zip codes are where they need to be, yet the messages keep coming. Also, what's the deal with the first error message? I get that one daily too.

It doesn't seem to be hurting performance, but I thought you'd like to know.

Inappropriate?@David,
That's really strange about the zip code errors... I guess I'm not sure what's going on there. If you'd like, feel free to email me (jr [at] trms.com) *all* of the zip codes that you're using (including zip codes for any weather crawl bulletins) and I can try running it here to see if I can get it to break too.
As to the frame rate error... It looks like it's trying to play some videos on your SX that are a bit out of spec. Perhaps progressive files? I've asked some smart people for clarification and I'll let you know what I find out. :)

Inappropriate?Following up, it does appear that the "incompatible frame rate" error is because there's a video file that's not within spec... The next version of Cablecast (4.8.4) will expand on the error message a bit and tell you which file is causing the issue so you can remove it or convert it to a compatible format.
-John -
Inappropriate? Thanks again John. Do you think it would help to encode the DVD from a DVD player rather than ingesting through the software? Or will that cause a similar problem?
Let me know how it goes with the zip code.
DG
I’m well rested and ready to go.
