What way is best to create a full screen background?

What way is best to create a zone for use as a full screen background that does not change? I am trying to create a zone 1920x1080, with a backgound image. Then in the channel layout, I add additional zones, smaller in size, on top of the 1920x1080 zone in multiple locations still showing part of the background behind from the larger zone. There is an error message that immediately reads that the zones are overlapping eachother. Which is what I want. But then when displaying on a monitor, sometimes the full screen 1920x1080 zone shows up behind the other zones, and sometimes it seems to show in the front of all other zones, hiding the others. So the main question is, can zones overlap without complications? And is there a better way to create a background that I do not want to change with other bulletins but only dissapear when full screen alerts come on of course. And about the overlapping question, I created another 1920x1080 zone to overlap all other zones to come on the screen and show full screen ads at different times, not alerts but just regular info. But in the channel layout screen you cannot bring zones forward or backward in layers to know which zones are on top or bottom. Any suggestions on these items I am trying to work with?

    Hey Jer,

(Sorry I missed you in the chatroom earlier, I showed up just after you had left! whoops!)

Unfortunately, there isn't a really good easy way to do what you're trying to do. Basically, it all boils down to the fact that overlapping zones have "undefined" behavior when they're shown in the display engine. As you saw, sometimes the back zone is on top of the front zones, and sometimes it's the other way around. Since the zones don't have a priority in the "stack" so to speak, the display engine just sorta makes a best guess as to what you want.

So, that's why there's the little warning message in the channel layout editor screen, it's telling you that by overlapping zones, you can't be sure of what's gonna happen on the display side.

BUT! Our creative services team has devised a way to create a seamless background "look" without needing to have "stacked" zones. Amber wrote about it and made a short video about the process on her blog here: http://blog.trms.com/amber/creating_a...

Our creative team will also do this sort of channel design for you. You can check out their custom services and some pre-made channels on the creative store: http://store.trms.com (Shameless plug: These guys are amazing, they've made some incredible stuff for clients.)

So, if your regular channel has this style of seamless background, you can then create a "Full Screen Alert" zone that will override the entire channel whenever you create or schedule a bulletin on that zone. Think of it like flip-flopping between your zoned channel, and a single full-screen zone. I think this is what you're looking for. Note that you "subscribe" a channel to a full-screen alert zone in the Channel Setup area, not in the Channel Layout area.

I hope this is helpful... I know it's not exactly what you're trying to do, but I think it will get you most of the way there.

For what it's worth, we've been having lots of discussions internally on how to make this process better. More and more people want to do exactly what you're trying to do, and we realize that it's not super easy in Carousel. So, I know it doesn't help for right now, but we're working on it! :-)
