Why does the RSS bulletin take so long to update?
Why does it take so long (many hours) for the RSS bulletin template to update on the sign? What's the hold-up? If I create a new RSS bulletin and alter the template, it takes a long, long, time to register the changes... The same thing seems to happen with RSS images #ItemImageURL# takes 24 hours to read the image when the same RSS feed works fine on other displays. Can anyone solve this mystery for me?
Thanks,
Megan

Inappropriate?Hello Megan,
Carousel downloads RSS data every 15 minutes, so updates should not be taking hours. Do you have a proxy server in the mix? For more detail please read JJ's post on troubleshoot RSS bulletins.

I’m curious

Inappropriate?Megan,
When you first create an RSS bulletin does it show up quickly? But then changes to the layout do not? I think I *might* know what is happening.
We actually cache the RSS data to improve network performance. When the data in the RSS bulletin does not change, we do not re-render the bulletin. I wonder if this is having an adverse affect on changes made the the template.
We'll look into is ASAP. -
Inappropriate?Okay, so I've experienced a couple of different but perhaps related problems... I'll have an RSS image feed working in one channel, and then I want that same feed to work in another channel. When I create an RSS feed from scratch and put in the RSS URL for the first time, the image will not come up for an extended period of time... But if I copy the RSS image feed bulletin that is working in one channel to the other channel it works immediately. BUT if I then alter the layout of the that bulletin, it won't update and the image won't come up. In general I find that changes to the RSS feed bulletin layout do not update very quickly.
What else can I tell you that might help?
I’m happy to help.

Inappropriate?I am having this same exact issue. Is there any way to clear out the cache so the layout will update? It does update easily if I change significant information, but if I change a layout element, it may be days before I see an update. In turn I have to delete the template and create a completely new one.
Thanks!
I’m indifferent

Inappropriate?I'm having a very frustrating experience with this. I've updated the templates, a few hours ago and I am not seeing any change. I'm trying to avoid deleting it and re-uploading.
I’m frustrated

Alex,
A solution for the timely updating of RSS bulletins will be release in our next version of Carousel. I will post an update to this string when we release.
We apologize for the inconvenience and frustration! -
Inappropriate?A workaround for this issue would be to change the URL on the RSS bulletin (different, yet valid) and save. Then go in and change the URL back to the desired feed. This situation forces an update.
I’m hoping this is helpful
