I got a reply from David (Karp) for a comment I left on the main Tumblr v4 regarding this, and he says RSS is coming in v4. I just thought I'd put the discussion here to see how many others share my interest.
As a side note I really think the lack of RSS really is why I miss so many posts. I really can't keep the dashboard open at all times, mainly because paging is simply a flawed design and I'm pretty sure Feed readers are how most tech people read their, well, feeds.
The API has lovely "read" and "write" actions, but it's not possible to edit or remove existing posts. Is there any chance of an "update" or "delete" action to allow you to do this?
I am adding videos from my Youtube account, but want to add the "&rel=0" parameter to the end of the video link so that related videos are not shown when my video is finished playing. However, the "&rel=0" is stripped from the end of the video link when it is finally embedded on the page.
Is there anything I can do to get this parameter attached to the videos?
I've pinged Picnik.com about it, but I thought I would share it here. Picnik posts photos using the email address Tumblr assigns each blog. For a few months now, pictures I send to Tumblr through Picnik never show up.
I really think it would be cool if there was a way to make the audio posts into an iTunes compatible Podcast feed. Then it would automatically take any audio posts and create an iTunes Podcast feed out of them. This could then be submitted to iTunes as a Podcast which people could download and use on their iPods.
There would have to be proper "enclosure" support, as well as tweaking the XML to be compliant to iTune's standard.
Come to think of it, why can't you download the audio files that are uploaded to an audio post?
It would be great if Tumblr offered an option to import RSS feeds as video or audio posts. The media enclosure would become a flash video / audio post and the item description would become the caption.
Would be cool to support Atom, MetaWeblog, or BloggerAPI posting formats... this comes up because many on flickr would like to use their "blogthis" function to submit to tumblr, but one of these formats would be needed, or explicit addition by flickr (which has been requested but no action yet).
Is it possible to use Tumblr to create an iTunes compatible Podcast feed? Or, is the RSS (XML) feed that Tumblr outputs able to be submitted to iTunes as a Podcast?
Because Tumblr provides its JSON read output as a Javascript variable (complete with a semicolon at the end) it won't work out of the box with the json-php library--and possibly other json libraries. My quick fix was to use str_replace to remove the non array pieces:
Google Adsense does not show up on my blog http://mikeontv.tumblr.com It should be under the description in the right sidebar. the green box is there that shows the proper size yet no adds. All other adds are working on other sites with the same ad channel.
I realize that the content in imported fees has always been truncated, but I notice it happening to my items more frequently now because of the expanded limit at delicious (1000 character descriptions).
What is the reason for truncating imported feeds? Is there any chance the limit will be increased in the future?
Or would the only way to get the entire description field from delicious entries to appear in my Tumblr posts be to write a custom importer which scrapes my Delicious feed and posts the full description to Tumblr via the Tumblr API?
I made an account yesterday and I customize my layout last night. Today, I edited my layout again but it still shows the old one. And also my new post doesn't show on the main page anymore, but if I clicked on the permalink of my new post, it shows the new layout and I can see the post.
I'm new to Tumblr, so I don't know what's going on.
Please help, thank you in advance! :)
I added a couple of Twitter feeds to my Tumblr, and it says "
Importing "Twitter / aaronrester" as full text without titles" etc. ; however, the feeds do not appear to be being imported.
Could you guys add a paragraph button to the wysiwyg editor? That way we would be able to add titles to all posts without having to go to the html view.
Adding the optional title field to all post types would work too :)
