in-line posting/editing
Here's an idea I emailed to Tumblr. Just wanted to see how much support it would get here. The idea is in-line posting. Here are some (quick and bad) mockups to show how it would work.
I'd like to see a similar path taken with editing (just check out an SMF-format message board and try editing one of your own posts with the little edit icon next to the post -- not the one on top of the post that opens a new page, but the one that lets you edit right there on the same page in the same spot where your post is.)
You would click "edit" next to a post and the post would turn into a text box with all the regular editing options like you get on the editing page, but without a new page. When you hit save, it turns back into a regular post (updated, of course). I don't have mockups of that, but like I said, you can see it on other sites.
Here's the deal: you click Post, and a dropdown asks what kind of post you want. Then, your blog content scrolls down and a text editor appears for you to compose your new post, complete with all the standard options from the regular posting page on the dashboard. When you post it, the page scrolls back to its normal position, your previous post scrolls back down and the new post inserts itself nicely where it should be.
