I just discovered the tumblr api, but my server didn't support curl, so is there a way to post data to tumblr without using the curl function?

Clearbricks, a PHP toolbox, have an HTTP client that use sockets instead of curl. Maybe that can help you? I use it in my PHP Tumblr class, and performances are here. Check it out on http://clearbricks.org/ . (you may be interested by PHp Tumblr too : http://code.google.com/p/phptumblr/ ).
Anyway, you could also use sockets manually...
