Tumblr should implement the ability to Import / Export post data.
As stated many times in the review of Tumblr, this great service is missing the ability to import and export post data. This would be helpful in keeping a backup or your data as well as being able to restore data as needed.
In addition, the ability to import different formats would also allow for my adoption from users moving from other blogging solutions (wordpress, blogger, etc.).

Inappropriate?I certainly have no plans to leave Tumblr, yet I can see how this would be an incredible relief to people potentially wanting to join but worried about their data integrity and vendor lock-in.

Although nice, getting a text backup is useless and would not be any bit faster to put on a different platform than a regular copy and paste -
Inappropriate?The import would be really handy. It's really weird that it's not implemented. It's not like it would be THAT difficult to do. People have written rough scripts to send posts through manually.
We need some sort of import method. I have a blog with 4 years worth of posts and comments that I'd love to tumblrize...
