Why do I need to direct my domain to IP address 72.32.231.8?
I followed all of the instructions from here (http://www.tumblr.com/docs/custom_dom...), but now my site won't load at the correct domain: www.make-outmusic.com

Inappropriate?Hello! The A Record for make-outmusic.com is pointing to 69.25.27.173 rather than to 72.32.231.8. If you are unsure how to change it, your domain name provider can help. Thanks!

I know, but why do I need to point it to 72.32.231.8? -
Inappropriate? If you want your domain to directly point to Tumblr then its A record must point to Tumblr.

I successfully entered the host and IP a couple hours ago, but I understand it can take up to 72 hours to register, right? -
Additionally, when I click on a blog post title to get that post's URL, it just went to my domain URL, not the post URL. Is that an issue tumblr can resolve for me? -
Inappropriate? It does not appear that you have repointed your A Record correctly. Your domain name provider can help you with that.
Have you perhaps made changes to the Custom HTML of your blog's theme? If so, perhaps those changes have created a link problem. Try Disabling Custom HTML on the Theme tab and then add your customizations back one at a time to see if that helps.

What exactly are the benefits of directing the IP address? If you go to my tumblelog - www.make-outmusic.com - you'll see it goes right there as it should. What difference does changing the IP make? -
Inappropriate?Unless you do an A Record repoint, Tumblr.com links on posts, reblogs, follows, etc. will still point to your Tumblr.com URL rather than your custom domain. If you don't care, then don't change anything.

Thanks for explaining all of this. Very helpful. So, you're saying if I follow your instructions with an A-Record repoint, links on my blog will show up like myowndomain.com/blogpost? -
Inappropriate?Correct.

Ok, after contacting my domain provider, they went ahead and directed to the proper IP (72.32.231.8). He said that can take up to 24 hours to go into effect. Meanwhile, my domain - make-outmusic.com - isn't loading. My tumblr URL loads fine. Does this sound about right? -
Inappropriate?Have you clicked the Customize link on the Dashboard and then the Info tab to tell your blog to use the Custom Domain? Details are at:
http://www.tumblr.com/docs/custom_dom...

Yes. Note that my domain provider had to disable URL forwarding to do so, but I'm not sure if that would be connected. -

Inappropriate?It's working! Thank you!
-
Inappropriate? One last question: I use Google Analytics to track my site visits. Am I going to have to start over tracking visits since I have a new domain?
-
Inappropriate?No, no change is needed.
