please drop the password anti-pattern
OAuth please?
Could we please authenticate with OAuth? It's available now. http://apiwiki.twitter.com/OAuth-FAQ
The password anti-pattern should really be banned. You probably know a few shady 3rd-party Twitter services did bad things with people's passwords, so there really is a risk out there. I'm sure you're good guys, but you really should not be teaching people to keep giving out their passwords.

Inappropriate? The OAuth anti pattern is not much better, remember a lot of services key their accounts of the twitter user name and use twitter as a complete end to end authentication and OAuth means that a whole new Username and password has to be introduced for the services.
Just for the record, Twitters OAuth is still in Beta and is not released completly, infact it has some performance problems.
The risk about giving out your password is only slightly reduced with OAuth because lots of accounts manipulation can still be done once you have granted access, only stopping when you block the application...
anyway, there is a sample of what we are doing with oauth at http://oauth.twe2.com
