It's been 4 days and I have no new followers. Not good.

The less it works the more I think it's been a scam all along.

I was in the first 1000, and my account now tells me I have 7 followers from Tweepme. That's fine for me since it's free, but if I was paying $8.95/month I would be expecting better numbers than this.

a few people seem to have that problem and the deal is that - the most probable reason for that is that when you registered in to the system the 5000 free accounts were already over - and that is why when you type in your user name and pwd it gives you the option of the payment's ie monthly/yearly....
I understand that you might have seen that number on the top of the page that was less than 5000 when you signed up - the reason for that most probably was that after having exhausted the first 5000 free sign ups - a lot of people got taken in by the paranoia that was being created at the outset about this not being a bona fide product and the scare mongering that indulged in by a few unscrupulous elements- and a few people began canceling their free registration - so the number on the top of the page did not reflect the correct number of registrants - as when that was showing for eg 4500 when they (tweepme) already had ~ 5800 people registered - the only accounts that were in the first 5000 were the ones which upon entering your name and pwd - you were automatically sent to the home page and the payment option was not shown at any stage........I am pretty certain you do not fall in that category (and you are being shown the payment options- which as I said was not there for people who were amongst the first 5000 ) NOW THERE WAS A SLIGHT CONFUSION AROUND 1000 AS INITIALLY THERE WERE SUPPOSED TO BE ONLY 1000 ENTRIES AND WAS LATER INCREASED TO 5000 so the same 1000 was not reached on the page but there were more than 1000 people already registered with the site - but all those folks in that predicament were upgraded to the free accounts as far as I understand...- incase case I am mistaken you can wait for the official reply from the tweepme -but incase I am right 9 odd bucks for such a great service seems to be totally worth it.......and enjoy the service whenever you get on it - that I can attest - that for the time being at least it works very well - and as a customer who was exactly in the predicament that you are I know the apprehension that you might be facing - but when you get it you will most likely be pleased with what they offer......the main testament for that is I as a customer am taking out time and effort to help them - because what happened at the outset (the vitriol against these new guys on the block) was really ugly and unbecoming to say the least....so hope this helps you in some way.....
ps- I would advise you the monthly option of payment as one does not know how the twitter guys might react to this program once it gets going ......big time and my guess is they might react....so be on the safe side and go for the smaller option - and make hay while the sun shines (hope u get lots of followers) - as in the last 3-4 days they have tweaked their system and ppl have gotten more followers in this duration than since the day the program started.....
