Are there any future plans to send and recieve sms texts as well?
While I definitely like the idea of Twilio, I would switch over hands down in a second if they could provide incoming and outgoing sms functionality as well as the voice services.

Hi Ben, and everyone else on this thread who is a fan of Twilio adding SMS. As you might have seen in the past, we offer an early developer access program for features we are working on rolling out.
With SMS on our roadmap, I'd like to collect the email addresses from anyone who wants to be part of the beta users group for this feature. Drop me a line at help@twilio.com with your contact info so I can get you signed up. Thanks!

Inappropriate?Bob-O,
SMS is definitely something we are evaluating. There are several interesting hybrid voice/SMS application possibilities out there.
If SMS is a really important feature for you let us know.

Inappropriate?SMS would be great. I'm looking around at SMS gateways, short codes, etc., and it all seems like a PITA. If Twilio could solve the SMS problem the same way you've solved the voice problem (e.g. I sign up, you assign me a regular phone number, and when people SMS to it, I get an HTTP GET/POST), that would be very cool.
-
Inappropriate?SMS support would be great. Twilio looks great, but without SMS I feel it's missing something relevant.
-
Inappropriate?Another enthusiastic vote for SMS, send and receive. (For my use case, It would essentially function as an async text version of Say/Gather.)
-
Inappropriate?Enthusiasm noted :)
-
Inappropriate?Another enthusiastic vote for SMS!!! Great job guys, love what you are doing. You can't go wrong with how simple the service is.
-
Inappropriate?Definitely handling SMS is major feature that is needed!
-
Inappropriate? You might want to take a look at TxtMarks. Using their service, you can both send and receive text messages (no voice services though). It would be very trivial to create a hybrid service using both Twilio and TxtMarks.

Good Luck! -
Inappropriate?I like txtmarks, but I think with this service instead of having 90 telephone numbers, you can reduce it into just one. The SMS service come/sent to your Twilio number, instead of having to publish another txtmarks.com number.
-
Inappropriate?sms would be a great complimentary feature and a much awaited one
-
Inappropriate?another vote for sms. Is there a newsletter to keep customers in touch with new releases and beta updates?
-
We send out a newsletter to all registered Twilio developers every few months. We are working on the next one right now! -
Inappropriate?SMS would be awesome. I'd really like to process both through one carrier.
-
Inappropriate?another vote for sms, text messages
-
Inappropriate?I'd like to see SMS integration with current numbers (short-code not needed)
-
Inappropriate?Even am waiting for sms feature from twilio. My Application has both voice alerts and sms feature. am using twilio for voice alerts and thinking to use cllickatell for sms. It helps me alot if twilio has sms .
I’m thankful

Inappropriate? My company, C4CMedia, has been working on connecting TWILIO's advanced capabilities with several SMS gateways to open up the business possibilities in the enterprise as well as helping business better orchestrate their processes for productivity and efficiency.
C4CMedia Loves Twilio! Thanks guys for creating a create technology to work with.

Inappropriate?Any updates on at least incoming SMS processing? All your potential competitors don't come close to your type of service. Looking forward to hearing!
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate? It would be great to be able to have voice and SMS on one platform/provider
-
Inappropriate?Another vote of "Please add SMS gateway" from me as well. Great product, in eval mode, love it so far... SMS would be FANTASTIC add though...
-
Inappropriate?Yes, I have far more uses for the ability to send out SMS messages (and just know they will be receive, which isn't the case right now with the current systems) than I have for voice (as cool as the voice is).

Inappropriate?I don't want to be in the beta program, but I'll be interested in this if you roll out a final version. My users have been asking me for SMS notifications but the SMS gateways are a real pain to work with.
-
Sounds good Brandon, I will update this thread when that happens so you'll be sure to hear about it. -
Inappropriate?SMS would be awesome. I can think of 18million uses for it, especially for OtherNum. Please include me in private beta.
-
Inappropriate?i'm on the band wagon too!
-
Inappropriate? We have some takers in the Intuit developer community too.
-
Inappropriate?Hey Mike, Hey Robert - make sure you send your email addresses to us at help@twilio.com (if you haven't already) so you'll be included when we make Twilio SMS available in beta. Can't wait to see what you guys cook up!
-
Will this beta be both sending and receiving SMS, or sending only? -
Inappropriate? If you need more votes for SMS I'll add mine too! Huge, it's a must have for me. The SMS number has to be the same as the voice number for customers. Discovering Twilio has made my week! You people rock!
I’m happy
