Clipped Tweets & Missing is.gd URLs
I started noticing this yesterday. On one tweet, I was posting a quote that fit within 140 characters -- but when I hit enter, it only included the first sentence of the quote (46 characters).
Today, I posted another Tweet that was within 140 characters -- Twitbin only included 54 characters.(I didn't delete it, so you can see it here: http://twitter.com/bethanybob/status/...)
According to the live "twitbin" Twitter search, I'm not the only one with this problem: http://twitter.com/Rosengeranium/stat...
Finally, I'm not sure if this is a separate problem or related to the above. When I right-click a page and click "Tweet This!" Twitbin comes up with the handy dandy short URL already in the "Tweet tweet" field (such as http://is.gd/jbr8). I have twice attempted to describe the page I'm linking to before the URL -- i.e. "This is @Rosengeranium's Twitter page: http://is.gd/jbr8" But when I hit enter, Twitbin often removes the URL at the end of the Tweet. (I think I had one successful attempt early on, but it hasn't worked in the last few days.)
I hope this helps. :\

Inappropriate?Hey Bob,
Thanks for the detailed response. What version of firefox are you using? What Operating System?
any other details you can think of that might help us find the root of this issue.
Hopefully we can get this resolved for you. -
Hi Brian,
Thanks for getting back to me. I'm on Firefox 3.0.6, running Windows XP Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 2. [Edited to remove: Nope, now that I remember, my laptop didn't have the URL issue. So I took out that info.]
I'm not sure what else to tell you. With the quote, I copy/pasted it into the "Tweet" field, and went back to add quotation marks. I redid the Tweet via the website, and it worked fine: http://twitter.com/bethanybob/status/...
With my Tweet this morning, I typed the whole thing in. It was supposed to read: "Dad is convinced he has an appointment Friday the 13th; it's Friday the 20th..." -
Inappropriate? It did it again this morning. I typed it in, hit enter, and it only posted the first half of my tweet. I'm at a total loss as to why.
I’m feh.

Inappropriate?And again...
The clipped Tweet: http://twitter.com/bethanybob/status/...
How it was supposed to be: http://twitter.com/bethanybob/status/...
I'm beginning to think it has to do with punctuation -- quotation marks, semi-colons, who knows what else. It seems to clip right after I use them.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I think you are right, it is the quotation marks. I am going to see what we can do about that.

Inappropriate?I'm having this problem, too. And I'm not using quotes in my tweets. Sometimes it cuts me off in the middle of a sentence (usually at a punctuation mark) but never in the middle of a word, so it appears that that's all I've said, when I've said a lot more. Often when this happens it leaves out the URL. Most of the time, I can't remember what I just tweeted so I end up pretty frustrated.
I'm running the latest release of FF3.0 on WinXP ProSP2 on a Dell Latitude D620 w/ 1.5GB of RAM.
Also, maybe this is a related problem but when TwitBin is about to receive its updates (I have it set to every 3 mins), my FF tends to freeze for about 5 seconds, and then the updates start scrolling through.
I do NOT have smooth scrolling turned on...
I’m frustrated

"Sometimes it cuts me off in the middle of a sentence (usually at a punctuation mark) but never in the middle of a word, so it appears that that's all I've said, when I've said a lot more."
Yup. Been there and done that, and I'm right with you with the forgetting what I said and getting frustrated. ;)
Running Twitbin 2.0.3, but haven't noticed any differences yet. How about you? -
Inappropriate?I actually didn't START having this problem until I upgraded to the latest version of Twitbin -- and i really like Twitbin and love that they listened to my suggestion re: the @ reply (to put a space after the name and focus cursor in the text entry box). Twitbin is the first app to actually get me in the habit of having the FF sidebar open while I'm browing.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate? So in v2.0.4 which was just uploaded to mozilla (they have to review it, and then approve) we fixed the tweet issue. Turns out the way we were posting the tweets to twitter was bad, and we fixed it in this release. We also fixed the international character issue as well.
I’m thankful

Looking forward to trying it out! :D -
Inappropriate? This is awesome! I've gotta say that, as devs, you guys are super-responsive to your users' needs and issues. I give you mad props for that!
I’m excited

Inappropriate?I don't even get the "right click" option... I've been searching the net for the problem... Is it me? I dunno. I'm pretty savvy...but whatever. Where is the right click done? In the box you type OR in the address bar? I can't get the link in either and yes I updated. Any help is appreciated... I am turtle__dove on twitter. Thanks
-
Right click anywhere on any webpage that you want to link to/Tweet. For me, "Tweet This!" is at the bottom of the list of options, after "Properties." Click it. If Twitbin isn't open already, it should pop open and in a few seconds, a link (http://is.gd/whatever) will appear in the "Tweet Tweet" box. Hope this helps! -
Inappropriate?you might have to control-click to get the right click/contextual menu (control key + left mouse )
