Having the link in front makes direct messaging impossible!
I know you have the image link at the end because you can't control how many characters people use for a caption. That makes sense. But there's a very unpleasant side effect: it makes it impossible to send TwitPic links in a direct message, since the "d" notation needs to be in front. I would like to be able to do this!
So, is there any reason why you couldn't let people decide in their settings whether to have the link at the beginning or the end, and therefore enable those of us who want to send direct messages do so?

Inappropriate?Agreed. It also doesn't look good when the tweet starts with a link, and the description comes later. It's usually the other way around (for a reason)!
