check out this link http://twitpic.com/evl
I noticed when I upload a photo from iPhone to TwitPic via Mobile Twitter, it doesn't get rotated properly when shot portrait. Maybe I am doing something wrong.. ?

We've added a "rotate" photo option to twitpic.com. This will compliment our server-side auto-rotate solution once it goes live. Hopefully this works great for everyone. I've tested it on IE 7 / Firefox 3 / Safari 3.
Thanks for being patient everyone, I know this request wasn't fixed as fast as it should have been. I'm hoping to be able to devote the majority of my attention to twitpic soon.

We are working on a fix for this and it should be rolled out this month. The fix will correct Images that were taken sideways or upside down and will automatically correct their orientation.

Inappropriate?um, not fixed?
-
We are working on it now. We're in the process of testing out the new functionality. -
Twitpic is ran and maintained by just me. I am working as fast as I possibly can while working a full time job during the week. I've had to piroritize other things above this fix, like server stability since twitpic's traffic growth has been very quick. Server stability is at the highest priority. No server = no service. I hope you'll understand where I am coming from. Thanks for being patient. -
I also run a site and have a day job, so I know where you are coming from. It's a great service and I am grateful for your efforts. Keep up the great work!!! -
Inappropriate?Perhaps in addition to attempting to fix the orientation automatically, you could also add a simple "Rotate Pic" text link visible only ot the person who submitted the photo. Simple, and allows manual override in case the automatic rotation doesn't quite work.
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate?Just to clarify no fix has been put in place yet. We've been testing a fix on staging server. We've ran into a road block with images coming in from certain iPhone apps. The images are coming in sideways and the EXIF orientation value is not set correctly and this is why we haven't been able to correctly orient photos coming from those apps. They end up just being oriented upside down which is even worse.
This is a top priority fix for us right now. We are working with the developers of those apps to correct this issue as its not completely in our control. Thanks for being patient

I apologize for sounding a bit rude in my post above. I shouldn't complain at all...this is a FREE app. You are 100% right, I work full time & have a life too. I really appreciate the work you put into this! Thank you! -
Inappropriate?Hence my suggestion to add a way on the TwitPic site itself to manually rotate an image as needed.
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?Allowing the account owner to manually alter the rotation of the image would be cool. Since the owner might not always be immediately aware of the issue, especially if uploading from a mobile client, a javascript control that allows in-browser rotation of the image would be a good option as well (http://www.twinkleshots.com/ is a good example).
Awesome service, keep up the good work.

Since the submitter of the image knows the proper orientation, having a manual override seems to be a great solution. It's the only solution when the EXIF infos are wrong.
I am not a big fan of the TwinkleShots solution since it's not permanent. -
I agree. I'd prefer manually rotate my pics. -
Yeah, forget building software smart enough to auto rotate images, just give us the ability to do it manually. -
Inappropriate?Nice ... yeh I just posted this -> http://twitpic.com/52ut and of course, it's the wrong orientation. Thankfully, it's been worked on ...
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?Still doing it ... http://twitpic.com/5vkv ... come on ... you said 3 MONTHS AGO !!! you were working on it.
I’m pissed

This is a bug with the twitterrific client that you are using ( http://furbo.org/2008/07/11/known-iss... ). They are currently working on a fix that should be released in their next version. We have auto-rotate functionality in place on our end, but due to this bug it does not rotate images correctly that come from twitterrific due to bad exif data being written to the images.
Please use another service if you don't like twitpic. -
Inappropriate?hello??? still waiting for my pics to be right side up. is this too much to ask?
I’m frustrated
-
The issue you are having is due to a bug in twitterrific that writes incorrect orientation data to the photo which does not allow us to orient the photo correctly. This is not a bug with twitpic. Twitterrific is working on a fix to be released in their next version. You can read details about that issue here: http://furbo.org/2008/07/11/known-iss... -
ahh thanks much for the explanation. it's appreciated. -
Inappropriate?I have to say: I would very much value the ability to rotate pics. It just seems convenient. That said, I'm disappointed with the sense of entitlement in many of these comments. This is a *free* service, maintained by a single person. If you don't like the service, build your own or use another one. STFU and let the poor guy work on the thing. It might also help to put things in perspective. This is hardly an earth-shattering problem.
There's nothing worse than complainers who do not value the hard work done for them by others.

hey vegan freak. maybe i wasn't clear but i am not asking for a feature i'm asking for a bug to be fixed. if i take a picture up and down and use twitteriffic to post it, it is posted via twitpic but it's posted sideways. The only sense of entitlement I have is that people release code that is not buggy and if it is then _please_ fix it in a timely manner.
Cheers -
Inappropriate?I agree 100% with veganfreak. I posted a comment above saying
"Yeah, really...it's 3 months later & my pics are still sideways."
Then after thinking about what I said I went back & apologized for being rude. This is a FREE service & I appreciate the fact you are working on it & keeping up updated.
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate?Yep, once I understood that it wasn't a TwitPic issue, but a Twitteriffic one, I posted the following:- http://iphone.sikosis.com/index.php?b...
Though, since Icon Factory are dragging their feet ... how about the option for us to manually rotate the photo. That would fix it for the time being at least.
I’m hopeful
-
Inappropriate?Yeah, go complain to twitteriffic. At least they are making money off some of us.
I’m neutral
-
Inappropriate?my iPhone shots taken normally are being rotated. so, this twitterific's fault?
I’m frustrated
-
Can you post me the link to your photos that aren't being oriented correctly? Thanks! -
oops, should've added that as a comment. My bad. -
The rotation issue on those photos is a twitterrific bug that they are working to fix in their next release. We aren't able to auto orient them correctly due to the bug which writes bad exif data to the images. They should have it fixed soon. -
